Promenade Tree Lighting Ceremony Wednesday Evening, December 13

The ceremonial lighting of the holiday tree at the Montague Street entrance to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, coordinated by the Brooklyn Heights Garden Club, will be on Wednesday, December 13, starting at 5:30 PM. Carolers from the Grace Chorale of Brooklyn will be there to provide holiday spirit. Afterwards, the carolers will proceed to the Brooklyn Women’s Exchange, at 137 Montague Street (between Henry and Clinton), where the Exchange will stay open until 7:00 PM for holiday shopping.

I fervently hope that the ceremonies do not get interrupted by protesters, as has already happened at some tree-lighting ceremonies across the country.

Let’s hope this one is off their radar. Personally, I think this is the best Christmas tree in the city, but I may be a little biased because I grew up here.

Not necessarily off their radar, but probably beneath their notice: They prefer events attended by major news crews.

Or places that can accommodate thousands of their ilk and inconvenience many more than that, like our East River bridges and Grand Central.

This seems late…but the promenade tree is always up for a short time span. Maybe it doesn’t last so long given the exposure to the whipping winds, etc.

I walked by yesterday and the tree was already lit! I thought one of the purposes of the tree lighting was to light up an unlit tree.

    What gives?

If I recall correctly, it’s standard procedure for the tree to be lit for some days before the official lighting ceremony.
