I saw this doorway yesterday. Lots of wonderful Halloween displays around the Heights this year, really imaginative pumpkin carving!

Here’s 94 Pineapple Street in 1940. That entire block is gone, replaced by Pineapple Walk and one of the Cadman Plaza buildings:

Here’s the rest of the block, to the corner with Henry Street, in 1961, also gone:

Smoke shop at 64 Henry Street raided (again!), illegal cannabis seized. Mary Frost at the Eagle has the story:

It was great little theatre—and the matron, flashlight in hand, patrolled with an intimidating seriousness of purpose.

What was that seafood restaurant? We could use a good one today!

City Vineyard is opening an outdoor wine bar at the Panorama buildings (Furman & Doughty corner, by the outdoor stairs). Across from the 1 Hotel & the new entrance to Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Love the picture of the old movie theater. I actually saw movies there when I lived on Pineapple Street in 1958 until 1976. Do not recall what year all that area changed

  • fultonferryres

The bar is actually in the other building at 25 Columbia Heights, using an outdoor terrace on one of the top floors, facing Doughty Street. Drawings are available on the liquor license application which is published on the CB2 public drive.

Went to the promenade for my morning jog today and there were huge piles of trash surrounding nearly all of the garbage bins. I complained on 311 but haven’t been back to see if it was cleaned up (and sorry that this was someone’s job).

Who are these people who just dump their rubbish on the ground? Would they like it if we went and trashed their neighborhoods? It’s not exactly a sign of an evolved civilization.

  • Cranberry Beret

I was wondering about that, it’s a little confusing. There’s another slide in that application that shows the Furman St corner highlighted.

  • fultonferryres

They posted the notices on the 30 Columbia Heights building, but the rendering in the application is at 25.

  • Banet

Agree but it’s been this way for a long time now. When will the parks department realize that we simply need 2x as many trash cans on the promenade?

  • Bornhere

We kiddos were relegated to the section on the far right.

  • Jorale-man

Yes, we do need more trash bins. The promenade has always seemed a bit neglected by the city – notice the poor state of the paved surface. Maybe there needs to be the equivalent of the Central Park Conservancy here to help fund it.

Remember when they repaved the entire thing, installed new drains? Then apparently budgeted $0 for maintenance.

Those new drains are all clogged now, as you can see after every rainfall, with the lakes under the seats.

At the north end, under the scaffold, there’s a stagnant stream from a constantly flowing flowerbed watering device.

  • Droolyn

Brave dude. He filed nine hundred 311 complaints about cops illegally parking on sidewalks.

Join us tomorrow, Saturday from 10-3 at 57 Montague Street for a Designer Clothing & Craft Sale!

Yes, the flowerbeds themselves seem to be in good condition. Why not the promenade itself? Different funding sources and oversight, I assume.

I remember the matron, very stern. I am also born here.

Yeah, this guy was at Java with JoAnne on Thursday and he took up 90% of the conversation time…He is singularly obsessed with this issue and to what end? He absolutely should not have been contacted or harassed. But allegedly he used an after-market an app to make all those complaints. Basically complaint speed dial. The problem is enforcement and cops are not going to enforce tickets against their brethren. Also, double parking is a problem everywhere. Wouldn’t it be more effecdtive to work with Transportation Alternatives or the Straphangers to get traction on this?
