    Congratulations to Dan Goldman.

The New York Times endorsement probably made a big difference.

The results showed Goldman winning our neighborhood, Tribeca, Financial District and West Village. Niou won Park Slope.

Simon and Holtzman probably should’ve dropped out with deBlasio.

    blah.
why does that graphic say Aug. 2020?

so there was a car accident at the end of Old Fulton on Monday at evening rush hour and I haven’t seen any info about it in the news. I assume that’s because there weren’t any major injuries, but since it looked like a car actually crashed into and through the bollards and up into the park right by Barge Music I’m surprised that there hasn’t been any mention anywhere. anybody know what happened? That whole Furman/Old Fulton intersection is legitimately scary.

Helicopter madness in full swing now over at Wall St heliport.
No exaggeration to say that one helicopter is landing or taking off every minute. The noise on the Promenade and down in BB Park is pretty disturbing. I thought something had been done to cut back on this but apparently not so.

  • CassieVonMontague

Hopefully Dan Goldman will join Nadler and Velazquez in their support of the Helicopter Safety and Noise Management Act, which will the reduce the number of non-essential civil helicopters.

The helipads are so crowded that the Hamptons-bound have started taking seaplanes. You’ve probably noticed them flying down the East River VFR corridor landing or departing from the New York Skyports Seaplane Base.

Hamptons residents are fighting over helicopters, too.

Thank you! it was hard to tell from the angle i approached. I hope they make a full recovery.

How fast do you have to go crash like this? They should ban these monster SUVs in the city. You don’t need a multi-ton killing machine to go around town.

  • CassieVonMontague

Borough Hall is getting its own holiday market this year, brought to you by the same company that does the holiday markets in Union Square, Bryant Park and Columbus Circle.

Here’s the last split seconds of the existence of Brooklyn Heights in this artwork by Chesley Bonestell imagining what the city would have looked like if attacked by Hiroshima-size A-Bombs in the late 1940s. Click to enlarge:

It actually looks like the Heights wouldn’t be obliterated, heavily damaged and poisoned by fallout but I’d bet most buildings would stand.

Has anyone else noticed that the train arrival display at Clark Street no longer displays Manhattan bound trains. Very frustrating. Any suggestions who at MTA to contact to get this reset.

  • AEB

Unless I’m mistaken, the display near the booth no longer provides ANY information about train arrivals, north- OR southbound. I notice that this is sometimes a problem with track arrival displays too. It’s as if these just poop-out, and revert to the day-date format.

  • Andrew Porter

Also, there used to be a system map on the wall opposite the booth. It’s been missing for literally months (unless replaced since last I looked).

    Wow, that is frightening.

This is good news let’s hope the market is successful

You sure? Wooden buildings versus nuclear weapons: guess which prevails? Again, click to enbiggen:

Most of the buildings in the heights are brick or stone. Also, I was referring to the your caption “Hiroshima-size A-Bombs” Judging the distance from the epicenter of the blasts in the picture, that size bomb, a meager 15KT the Heights would probably survive.

Trans-Alt much? Your comment is straight out of their playbook.

Anyway, as far as your question: I’d say around 20mph could do that damage given the bollard held fast and the energy was concentrated to a small point.

  • Ebenezer

My HS history teacher said that brick buildings absorb radiation and suggested they all should be torn down. This was in the 60s and we had no idea if this was true.

  • Effective Presenter

Our family car is a larger SUV that is driven carefully at all times.

  • Pierrepont

I guess our greenmarket is at low ebb in November and December, but I hope it doesn’t get elbowed aside by the Holiday Market.

  • karateca2000

I don’t know what Trans-Alt is. They sound like reasonable people.

  • KDHicks

    What does this mean?

  • Effective Presenter

That may be a rumor, the Archdiocese usually does NOT operate in such a manner.
