The number of “coming soon” establishments keeps growing. Hopefully they actually arrive in the not too distant future.

It would be nice if head shops had an easier pathway to also being dispensaries. I suspect a radically larger consumer base for legit edibles, for example, in the Heights than outrageous bongs or pot leaf bandannas. Or even for both.

I’m writing an op ed…you’ll see that we agree on most things. I’m really effing sick of anti-vaxxer BS.

  • meschwar

I assume that any head shops opening now are intending to become legal dispensaries ASAP. They’re just investing early to get ahead of the game.

Does anyone know if the cause of the Montague Street fire has been determined yet?

  • TeddyNYC

Did anyone just hear a very loud boom at 7:20pm (1/6/22)?

  • gc

Was watching TV but did notice it in the background. Not sure what it was.

  • SongBirdNYC

Check Citizen app, it might be noted there.

  • MaggieO

last i read they were still investigating.

Dollars-a-month membership-based non-carcinogenic (vapors and edibles only) cannabis laundry lounge with Mediterranean food bites at street level on Montague and you’ll make a gajillion bucks.

  • Sweeties

    It’s not.

IMHO, relatively few regular consumers obtain their cannabis legally in places where recreational is legal. Why would someone pay more for a lower quality product in addition to waiting on line and having to travel? High quality Cannabis (and yay, horse, sex workers, etc.) is readily available for delivery in Brooklyn Heights 24/7/365 at competitive prices. Executives of CA Cannabis corporations recently wrote to Newsome that “our industry is collapsing”. Even in Canada where quality herb is available for $8CAN/g, the vast majority of consumers use their friendly local entrepreneur. Corporate Cannabis peaked in 2018 or 2019. Long live the informal economy : )

No thank you to vaping carts. I’ll stick with good ol’ fashioned combustion. Carts were fun and convenient but EVALI scared me (and many others) off. I believe another intoxicant lounge could thrive on Montague but carts in the past.

We’ve had several movie houses in the Heights (not counting the multiplex on Court Street) all of which eventually closed, were torn down for redevelopment (the St.George Playhouse on Pineapple Street, for one; see photo below) or the one at the corner of Orange and Henry.

A little late, here’s another ancient photo of the Heights, by John Vachon of people dining in the Bossert Hotel’s Marine Roof on September 21st, 1948:

And here’s a detail of the terra cotta at the top of the Bossert. Photo by the Wurts Bros., in 1919 (click to enlarge):

Sorry you hadn’t seen the news on Carecube before. They are a total scam – they ripped my family off for nearly $1000 in tests this Spring (I gotta a lot of kids) and are now under investigation by the state AG as well as the FBI. https://ag.ny.gov/press-release/2022/consumer-alert-attorney-general-james-launches-investigation-carecube-wrongfully Avoid at all costs!!

  • SongBirdNYC

I knew about it, but I had to find a place to turn around a PCR in 8-12 hours and they were the only one. I plan to report my experience to the Public Advocate, Lincoln Restler, etc. Just haven’t had time to do it yet.

A little late but I just had a fine experience getting a Covid test at Care Cube on Montague. I made a same-day appointment online (actually, for an hour subsequent to my doing it), showed up to a largely empty waiting room, and had the thing done expeditiously. Result in ten to twelve hours–but closer to eight. (I was negative.) This is a recommendation.

Article Thursday in The City saying they are under investigation for excess billing:

I don’t think I got billed. But will check it out. Thanks.

Twitter is abuzz with word that the Regal Court Street is closing. Looks like Sunday may be the last day to see a movie there.

2/3 train conductors are now announcing that they will be bypassing Clark Street “until April 2022.”
