I walked past the storefront at Hicks and Middagh that will be the Brooklyn Heights location of Alice’s Tea Cup and, lo and behold, there was the grin of the Cheshire Cat. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/61b92104235ab4933bff46e49c884db6d507ca7611705c82c732edfd87fb3499.jpg

Surprised you didn’t use it as the this weeks OTW cover photo.

Claude isn’t exactly all there himself ;)

A friendly Cheshire Cat reference Claude!!

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

I thought so, but how am I like the Cheshire Cat?

How is a raven like a writing desk?

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

    It supports lengthy poems?

  • http://www.yotamzohar.com StudioBrooklyn

Claude I’m throwing all the Alice references I can at this thing, I think it’s just lost in “internet”. :/

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

It’s lost on me, because I don’t know Alice as well as you do.

  • http://www.yotamzohar.com StudioBrooklyn

Sigh! To be clear, I’m not expert either.

A lot of chat about nothing on this thread so far.

Claude, I Googled the question and found this:

LEWIS CARROLL himself proposed an answer in the 1897 final revision of Alice’s Adventures. “Because it can produce a few notes, though they are very flat; and it is never put with the wrong end in front!” The early issues of the revision spell “never” as “nevar”, ie “raven” with the wrong end in front.

Anyone know what’s up with the storefront/ground floor of the new residential building at 70 Henry Street? Renderings promised a cafe etc. but right now it’s a bunch of generic office furniture. Maybe they are having trouble selling the units and set this area up as an “office” to show them? Either way, doesn’t look like it’s been built out for food or retail which is very disappointing.

I keep checking back to see if there’s any good gossip about the BQE project / Montague St. vacancies / bad neighbor types / hoodlums on their way to the park … and so far, nothin.’

  • W.R.

Haha Herman on Henry looking for something to get riled up about. You’re getting soft – since when have you needed a comment to start riffing?

  • http://www.yotamzohar.com StudioBrooklyn

    Nothing WHATEVER?

Alice jokes aside (shameful tragedy that I was riffing right past Claude there, he’d have been a champ at it, I just know it), I have some inside scoop on what’s going into the former Iris Cafe. But I’m still deciding whether this remark was a slight against said attempt at riffing. Harrumph!

  • Herman on Henry

    You’re a piece of stool

  • W.R.

    Now that’s more like it!

  • Herman on Henry

Not sure why you’re trying to instigate something. Funny nonetheless

You forgot movie shoots, Helicopters and scaffolds.

Calling all economists, pensioners, Trump & China watchers andRobRFfdfdfdFr investors…how will US trade policy and the ever-weakening stock market impact our neighborhood in the wake of tariff mania?

  • BrooklynHeightzer

It will cost more (and possibly will take longer) to fix BQE….

  • Andrew Porter

Chinese restaurants in the area will have to raise prices to cover cost of imported chopsticks…

On the market, I hold onto what I have. Despite the ups and down, the dividends remain solid.
