You have no credibility when you post replies like that.

I assume they’re just going to build a whole new structure with new supports over where the promenade now stands. Essentially, I suspect it would look (and sound) like the Gowanus Expressway, only with historic brownstones overlooking the traffic.

    “I assume, I suspect”
Haven’t You read or watched the DOT’s plan? Sometimes the ignorance around here is astonishing.

  • Kit

Perhaps you are right. I, for one, knew when the planners professed that the Pierhouse would NOT obstruct the view that they were not being honest. I expect this development will end up proving just as dishonest.

  • Cranberry Beret

Your condescension is misplaced. In fact, the DOT’s “plan” presented so far is schematic and was in no way intended to be detailed or final. They say so themselves. The actual design will come from whichever entity wins the design-build contract, which will design the temporary and final roadways based on DOT’s parameters.

Furman Street is a nightmare during rush hour. It’s not a feasible option for an entire highways worth of traffic.

Are you not aware, most of the new structure supporting the temporary highway at the cantilever section, is intended to be permanent? It would support the 2 new road decks and the new Promenade as well.
To build an only temporary structure over the berms, replace the cantilever with a new structure then demolish entirely demolish the temporary structure, will indeed cost a lot more. Hundreds of millions more!

Technically you are correct, but to my point, it is not run the city. In reality, the “state entity” is just a front for the money being siphoned off behind the scenes, into private hands…

FYI, Snark and Credibility are not mutually exclusive ; )
But I do apologize. I simply find it frustrating when I have read all the DOT reports available online, watched the entire meeting video, some of it several times and thus educated myself on the issue, to have answer ignorant comments, made by lazy people who haven’t done their homework.
THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE, KNOW THE FACTS!

What is needed is a new perspective.

  • Henry St Resident

What is needed is a new perspective and energy. Something lacking in the present Heights “leadership” which has sought to stop alternative voices. Now the consequences of that kind of leadership is being felt……

Look, some of the posters present simply outright banned several people who in no way were threate, obscene, or violated tos, just because you disagreed with their social or political views. I can think of one major figure offhand who has done much for this community you outright banned so….

The plan was pretty clear, the Promenade would be removed, a new structure would be built to support the new road decks and the temporary roadway. When the new roadway is completed, the temporary roadway will be replaced with new Promenade. That part follows a logical sequence that is pretty much set. What is undetermined are certain aspects of the design and construction details.

    What’s up Jeff?

How about the hundreds of families, who are our neighbors and friends, that will be left with homes that are virtually uninhabitable for close to a decade?
How about the thousands of families who will be seriously impacted by 6+ years of round the clock construction, added pollution, and a 6 lane highway where the Promenade once was?

  • Still Here

Arch, thank you for your persistence on this this thread. I, too, see no real alternative to the Innovative in terms of time, money or neighborhood impact.

Wild exaggeration only weaken your point. The temporary highway is scheduled to be in use for 3 years not ” close to a decade”. Yes it will be unpleasant for many who will have increased exposure to the BQE, However, “virtually uninhabitable” is insulting to those who already live with windows only feet away from the BQE (look at 1&2 Grace Court, etc.) somehow they manage to deal with it.
