That’s too bad. I really like that store. Don’t they have any kids or employees who could inherit the business? I hope BHB can do a tribute to them – that will be a real loss for the neighborhood.

Certainly explains the placement of the billboard as viewed from the BQE…

I’m guessing no one wants to take over because they’re likely little to no profit. Otherwise the owner would likely try to at least sell the business, no? Yet another victim of eCommerce/Amazon. :-/

  • Banet

Millions? It might be billions. Among other projects one or both have owned/flipped The Chelsea Hotel, the International Toy Center and BelTell lifts in Downtown Brooklyn. There’s really no obvious explanation to the absurdly glacial pace of the work.

  • Jorale-man

Probably right. I wonder how some of those other non-grocery businesses on that block make a go of it. Barney’s seems to always be deserted, for instance.

Had the same question. I will email office of Eric Adams.

That’s from the wonderful “Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel,” by Virginia Lee Burton, one of my favorite children’s books and authors.

Have you ever read her “The Little House”? That’s especially relevant to the Heights.

Ever noticed the electric instruments in those commercials aren’t plugged in to anything?

    Front for the International Gefilte…

    Never mind.

  • Brixtony

I recently heard someone refer to you in those terms.

  • Brixtony

The exact same thing happened to me on Monroe Pl. About 20 years ago. Likewise, the judge agreed.

Shabbat aside, there are many cordless electric instruments these days.

I walked by that Tai Chi Yoga place on Clinton just south of Joralemon today, and they’re moving out.

Anyone remember Sophie, from Salon Van Sickel?

  • Reggie

Did they say anything about my having a sense of humor?

  • Brixtony

Yes, but only after baking at 450 degrees for 40 minutes en brochette.

  • W.R.

    Hahaha good one both!

  • W.R.

True… the park corp shafted the community on height and now on buildings that were supposed to built solely to fund the park. And now the space above their offices is leased for $1 / year when they could have used that for affordable housing. I hope those [unprintable] rot in hell,

Please don’t stop the Hotel St. George postcards if you have more – they are fascinating, lovely – much more than simple nostalgia.

  • ykwthis

I always felt there was goodness somewhere in you….

  • ykwthis

BTW, I understand that was a subject of recent investigation….

  • ykwthis

Leave it to Andy to mock a serious subject….

Notice all the Christmas decorations still up? Including two lit trees!…
Well, people aare returning to traditional values…I wonder who might be responsible for that….

  • Andrew Porter

This was the last St. George postcard I scanned in. I do have some other images from the hotel, for instance…

One wonders how big the “giant-screen television” really was.

  • Banet

While they may be renting the space for $1/year, whoever rents it is required to spend the many millions needed to make it habitable space — including building an exterior entrance with elevator.

Chasidic kids are kids too. Why are they required to specify which kids get funds ? Do you apply Same standard to other charities ?

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7nPOzGeyaw Arch Stanton

Absolutely, transparency is paramount for any charity. To purposely hide the beneficiaries is disingenuous. Do you think Kars for Kids would get as many donations if they when by their actual name “Oorah Kiruv Rechokim”?

    F#*k off Jeffery.
