I met this handsome tree on Montague yesterday, sporting an “I Voted” sticker. When I inquired as to how a tree like him might cast a vote he proudly told me he supported Robert Gangi for mayor. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c83a9751763d33694f5d44b1bce10e162d485e9131e87fe4a1c350803f144f35.jpg

Does anyone know why Hagen Daaz has been ‘closed temporarily’? It is making me worried!

  • DIBS

I find it offensive that you assumed the tree’s gender.

Time for more old postcard views of the Heights. Here’s the Old Hicks Residence, which I suspect isn’t there any more:

Always the smart alack. Why don’t you make like a tree and get outta here.

  • ColumbiaHeightster

Hello? Hello? Anybody home? Huh? Think, McFly! Think!

  • DIBS

Let’s get to the root of your issues.

  • Grace Court Jester

He must have been impressed by Gangi’s stump speech!

  • StudioBrooklyn

To be precise it was an educated guess: planting female trees might yield fruit, as we’ve seen from this guy’s gingko peers, and all that comes with it.

Closed by the Health Dept. because employees were not sterilizing utensils or properly washing hands (including no facilities to do so). Info from Patch.com.
Yes, when I walked by the store a day or so ago, they removed the signage of the closure (probably another violation).

If you haven’t heard, BH neighbor David Yassky (former City Councilman, former TLC Commissioner) has joined the race to replace Daniel Squadron as State Senator, I wouldn’t say the odds are good because it’s an internal Party Committee choice weighted towards the Manhattan part of the Districts, but I’ll keep hoping..

  • Reggie

“Race” is a metaphor in the first place, because Squadron’s successor will not be whomever is “the fastest in covering a set course.” Even so, it seems to me that if the county leaders are going to decide who fills the vacancy, “race” is the wrong word altogether. What is the right metaphor? Beauty contest?

Has anyone tried the new restaurant on the Dumbo waterfront, Cecconi’s? If so, how is it? The outdoor terrace looks nice, though it seems pricey.

  • ykwthis…

Er, perhaps the terms most gross (or most without thought)
    contest apply….

Hey, perhaps ex Sen. Squadron is at this moment writing a long tome on his public career, Hillary style, in which he attributes the end of his political life and decision to resign to the NRA or to Breitbart or myself…..

Try McConnell’s Ice Cream from Key Food. You’ll forget Hagen Daaz ever existed. Worth every cent at $10 a pint!

  • BKFoodie

I went for lunch a few weeks ago and sat outside. Can’t beat the view. It was incredibly plesasant. Shared a pizza and a tuna appetizer. The pizza was good but not great. The tuna was spectacular. I’d return!

If it was a Gingko, you’d have known in the fall…

  • Andrew Porter

Oops, sorry, posted this in August…

Here’s a brand new Old BH postcard. Plymouth Church, showing Claude Scales’s brand new car in front:

  • StevoNYC

I totally agree with you on McConnell’s, it is unreal. I never thought I would pay $10 for a pint…but it is worth it!

  • Jorale-man

Good to know – thank you!

  • Karl Junkersfeld

I am going to the soft opening at Sugarcane tonite. The interior is incredible and the raw fish bar is huge.

In the little town of Dunlap, Iowa, pop. 1,100, you will find these streets in close proximity: Clinton, Montague, Jerolemon (sp), Remsen, Court and Pierepont (sp.). A friend looking for his family’s roots in that town told me about those streets. I spoke briefly with someone in their city office who told me that they would contact their local historian. Haven’t heard back yet.

  • Andrew Porter

The fire hydrant in front of 151 Montague Street was knocked over. I’ve reported it to 311. The complaint number is C1-1-1462364681.

  • Andrew Porter

Gosh, look at the street names on this list of churches there:
