Fireworks Tonight; or, More Likely, Tomorrow

This in from Notify NYC:

Notification issued 5/13/17 at 9:00 AM. There will be a fireworks display near the Statue of Liberty tonight, 5/13, at approximately 11:30 PM. In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks display will take place on 5/14.

Given the forecast, I’m betting on tomorrow.

Update: Looking at the radar weather map has convinced me that, contrary to predictions, the rain, or most of it, should be over in a few hours (it’s now 5:05 PM), so we may well have fireworks tonight. According to the NYC Fireworks Displays site, the fireworks are sponsored by “NECO Awards.” A further web search revealed:

The Ellis Island Medal of Honor is an American award founded by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) which pays homage to the immigrant experience and the contribution made to America by immigrants and their children. The medals are awarded to native-born and naturalized U.S. citizens.
