Rally for Pop-Up Pool Tomorrow at Noon

State Senator Daniel Squadron has notified us of a rally to save the much loved Pop-Up Pool (photo) in Brooklyn Bridge Park tomorrow (Thursday, August 18) starting at noon, on the Pier 2 uplands next to the pool. The rally is organized by Senator Squadron, “Love Our Pool: Families United For A Pool in Brooklyn Bridge Park,” and community members. The Senator will release hundreds of petition signatures to save the Brooklyn Bridge Park Pop-Up Pool and the results of his survey in report titled Making a Splash: The Pop-Up Pool in Brooklyn Bridge Park. According to the press release:

Squadron’s office conducted the survey this summer in collaboration with “Love Our Pool.” The survey found that the pool serves a broad community, is the only swimming option for many families, and is so popular, swimmers keep coming back.

Isn’t that where the next portion of the berm is slated to be? I doubt BBP is going to alter a major part of the park landscaping for the wading pool. Maybe they should move it to where the high-rises at the Pier 6 uplands are planned instead.
