Recap: Chancellor Farina District 13 Town Hall

On Tuesday night, the District 13 CEC hosted a Town Hall with School Chancellor Carmen Farina at P.S. 256 Benjamin Banneker School in Bed-Stuy. The Chancellor responded to a series of five “big-topic” questions pre-determined by the CEC (culled from their collective experience, PTA President’s council and public feedback) Parents then had a chance to queue up and speak their minds.

Both Brooklyn Paper and WNYC’s Schoolbook have their own recaps.  Of additional note, and in response to a question about schools losing Title 1 funding due to gentrification, the Chancellor offered that all schools will be brought up to 87% funding as part of the increase in Fair Student Funding. Funding would then go up to 90% within a year.

Farina added, “When I look at diversity, I don’t always look at socio-economics” citing special needs and ESL learners as additional “pockets” of supplemental funding.
