“Beasts & Bottles” Coming To Ex-Red Gravy Site On Atlantic

According to the signs in the windows, the former site of Red Gravy, at 151 Atlantic Avenue (between Clinton and Henry streets) is soon to become “Beasts & Bottles”. The TimeOut New York write-up is encouraging. It will be owned by “the Provence, France–bred duo of Leslie Affre and Laurent Kalkotour along with Alexander LaPratt”, who are also behind Atrium Dumbo. It will be “equal parts wine bar and rotisserie restaurant”, featuring several tempting sounding chicken preparations. As for the wines, LaPratt “is the borough’s sole master sommelier and 2011’s Best Sommelier in America, as chosen by the American Sommelier Association.”

Your correspondent looks forward to trying the cuisine and wine at this welcome new addition to Atlantic Avenue’s collection of fine eating and drinking places.

It’s not a pizza place, so that’s a great start in and of itself.

Strange name, but that’s usually a sign that the owners have big ambitions (e.g. French Louis, Colonie). We shall see…

Too bad it’s not a Rite Aid, Duane Reade, or CVS.

I wonder when the French restaurant next to Sahadi’s, long in the works, will open.
