Word has come via DNA Info that Chez Moi, the charming little bistro at 135 Atlantic, between Henry and Clinton, where your correspondent has, from time to time on early evenings, sat at the bar enjoying dollar oysters washed down with picpoul de pinet, has gone underground to create a new cocktail venue. Look for a replica bookcase that’s actually a disguised door, open it, go downstairs, and you will find yourself in Le Boudoir, “[a]n underground cocktail bar inspired by the private chambers of France’s most decadent queen”.
The DNA Info piece quotes Chez Moi’s owners thus:
Marie Antoinette’s spirit lives on at Le Boudoir in everything from the bathrooms that were designed as an exact replica of her private powder room, to an original engraved doorknob from her bedroom.
It sounds most inviting, but perhaps one must be careful not to lose one’s head.
Update: Gothamist has details on the menu. There is indeed a cocktail involving absinthe (and likely some more), as well as one called “The Guillotine”. Bar snacks include crispy frogs’ legs and country pâté with cornichons.
