Let Them Drink Absinthe! Marie Antoinette’s Boudoir Re-created on Atlantic Avenue

Word has come via DNA Info that Chez Moi, the charming little bistro at 135 Atlantic, between Henry and Clinton, where your correspondent has, from time to time on early evenings, sat at the bar enjoying dollar oysters washed down with picpoul de pinet, has gone underground to create a new cocktail venue. Look for a replica bookcase that’s actually a disguised door, open it, go downstairs, and you will find yourself in Le Boudoir, “[a]n underground cocktail bar inspired by the private chambers of France’s most decadent queen”.

The DNA Info piece quotes Chez Moi’s owners thus:

Marie Antoinette’s spirit lives on at Le Boudoir in everything from the bathrooms that were designed as an exact replica of her private powder room, to an original engraved doorknob from her bedroom.

It sounds most inviting, but perhaps one must be careful not to lose one’s head.

Update: Gothamist has details on the menu. There is indeed a cocktail involving absinthe (and likely some more), as well as one called “The Guillotine”. Bar snacks include crispy frogs’ legs and country pâté with cornichons.

    Absinthe and oysters? I’m in…

Seems like the right setting for the BHB Commenters’ 1st Annual Meet & Greet. You’re already making arrangements, right Claude?

  • Quinn Raymond

We’ve been fans of Chez Moi for a long time, and their new space does not disappoint.

  • Concerned

I’ll be there if you and Dibs show up and I can take a ride on Dibs’ internet Rolls or drive drunk in his real life Bentley.

Great idea! Unfortunately, I can’t bankroll everyone a round of drinks, but we could have a gathering there some evening. I suspect a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday would be best for most people. Let me know your preferences.

  • StudioBrooklyn

I could make that work, and please, no expectations of rounds!

  • StudioBrooklyn

I will show up but I can’t make any promises about rides in DIBS’s car.

  • Montague Resident

A great space – intimate and cozy. Definitely worth checking out.

  • DIBS

I wouldn’t be driving up to Brooklyn. Plus, given your typical comments on BHB, I’d hate to hear what you sound like drunk. :-)

  • StudioBrooklyn

I am delightful when drunk, for the record. If Concerned is repugnant when drunk maybe we’d cancel each other out? Come on and join us!
