UPDATE: The CEC13Brooklyn has updated their website with a comprehensive overview, FAQ’s and time-line of the proposed re-zoning.
The CEC and DOE’s Office of District Planning has scheduled two Town Hall meetings to discuss the proposed re-zoning of Brooklyn Heights’ P.S. 8 and gather vital feedback from the community.
- Wednesday, September 16th: 6 pm at PS 307 located at 209 York Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201
- Monday, September 21st: 6:30-8 pm at P.S. 8 located at 37 Hicks Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201
The DOE’s Office of District Planning will make a short presentation on their rezoning scenario at each meeting. Representatives from both the DOE and CEC will remain on-hand for a Q & A period.
As previously reported, the re-zoning proposal was unveiled at the September 1st CEC meeting and demarcates the P.S. 8 zone at Old Fulton Street. Claude Scales’ report for the Brooklyn Daily Eagle explains,”the effect of this boundary change is to place all of DUMBO and Vinegar Hill, which are now in the P.S. 8 zone, in the P.S. 307 zone.
Those who are not able to attend the Town Hall meetings may weigh-in via a form on the CEC website. Comments will be sent to District 13 Superintendent Barabara Freeman, the DOE Office of District Planning and the CEC simultaneously. A full version of the DOE’s presentation is available HERE.
