Street Milling and Paving in Brooklyn Heights This Summer

We’ve received notice from Community Board 2 that some streets in Brooklyn Heights will be milled and re-paved this summer. We don’t yet have specific dates, but will provide them when available. Streets slated for daytime work are: Joralemon from Clinton to Hicks; Columbia Heights from Pierrepont to Cranberry; and Pineapple from Columbia Heights to Henry. Those slated for nighttime work are: Remsen from Clinton to Court; Joralemon from Fulton Mall to Clinton; Montague from Court to Montague Terrace; and Court from Montague to Atlantic Avenue.

These are never fun but very important to do. Those streets are so smooth when finished.

  • Jorale-man

Glad to Joralemon on the list. Last year’s repaving of other major streets was a definite upgrade.

Speed bumps should go up. Too many idiot drivers. Aren’t we a “speed zone” where speed bumps are being implemented?

  • Willow Street Watch

Speed controls or some sort ARE indicated on Clark Street between Cadman and Henry. Its an absolute mini drag strip at times. They should also speed bump Henry Street between poplar and like cranberry or just beyond Reason; when the average driver especially taxis have to power up the hill they invariably stay on the accelerator pedal. There have been many really dangerous near misses and in a well known incident, they severely injured LM (I saw the xrays guys)

  • memeadjuster

The traffic light at Clark and Cadman seems like over 3 minutes long, so many vehicles recklessly speed to beat getting stuck there.

  • ShinyNewHandle

By all means let us speed bump Henry Street just beyond Reason!

    That’ll teach us.

  • Willow Street Watch

Well first of all, I’m a former street racer so….I know exactly what damage a car can really do. The crashes I’ve seen and the real injuries even at low speed…so I’m not just talking here.

But some of even the non speed related behavior. How many cars back out of Monroe into Clark? How many cars shoot out into Henry near the St George? Or rush the lights going into Atlantic? Real
smart…that all started with people from outside the Heights then
there was an element of the Yups adopted the attitude that if they could do it why not me. Real 10 yr old’s thinking.

But tell you what…whenever I or my friends see a “smart” car (yeah, get T boned in that and you’ll see how smart you are) we now in unison shout c’mon..burnout! Burnout!!!

The driver invariably busts up laughing with us.

Hey, why aren’t there JATO bottles as an option on smart cars?

  • MonroeOrange

you’re a former legal or illegal street racer?

  • ShinyNewHandle

P.S. I know you meant “Remsen”, not “Reason”, but “just beyond Reason” was too delicious to let alone.

    “I’m a former street racer”
Yet more evidence cementing your image as a lowlife.

  • Willow Street Watch

I don’t usually answer personal attacks…but in this case it shows the amazing disconnect between the casino/BHAoid//St Grotelsex hive mind and the world the norrmal, healthy American lives in.

Explain how someone from an old family who was also involved in the American hot rod/custom car scene as a kid is instantly/irrev ocably a”low life”?

Only in the strange world of the casino or perhaps in some back room of the Brook club does that make any sense.

Remember when some Georgetown idiots barred the Beach boys from the National mall because they “brought the wrong element”!
Never mind that the Beach Boys are an American original, well its
    the same kind of nonthinking.

But its really the old practice of personally attacking someone when you can’t answer his presentations on the facts.

Some of these are Firetruck streets, so they can’t have speed bumps. I believe Henry and Hicks fall into these categories.

  • Bornhere

I’m not sure what you mean by “Firetruck streets.” I know there are streets (in Manhattan, at least) marked with Fire Lane, but beyond that, what would be a “Firetruck street”? Aren’t all streets potential emergency access routes? Thanks for any clarification you can offer.

  • BrooklynCoffeeLover

Meaning there are streets in the city that are direct routes for emergency vehicles so they don’t have to slow down. Whether it’s an evacuation or fire, some streets cannot have speed bumps as it would slow emergency vehicles direct route.

Street racing is an illegal dangerous practice, without regard for the safety of others.

  • Andrew Porter

Until Con Ed or some other utility excavates them a week later.

  • Andrew Porter

    “…the casino/BHAoid//St Grotelsex hive mind…”

    Really???

  • Willow Street Watch

Yes…..really. There is a mindset…or a genetic neurology that produces thinking like this. Unfortunately, this pathology extends beyond railing at such ‘horrible dangers’ as 1950’s to early 70’s
hot rodders. This pathology extends to the gross mismanagement
this country to the extent that we have the disorders and downward spiral we now have.

And oh, by the way, if I was involved in scca rallies, Lime Rock and “sporting” bets on who can make it to the Maidstone or to Kent..
THEN the self same behavior behind the wheel would be well, normal and “sporting” in the casino hive mind.

Wish that Love Lane was on the list :-(

  • StudioBrooklyn

I have to say I was very intrigued by this too…my mental image of WSW does NOT match some guy with a leather jacket and a muscle car. But I also feel the need to point out that this is pulling us way off topic. Should we just go with it?

  • StudioBrooklyn

Hey you know what I’d like to see? They should engineer and retrofit all car horns so that if a sustained blast is sounded while the car is not moving the airbag suddenly engages and inflates.
