SyFy Pier 1 Movies Schedule Announced

Gothamist provides us with a list of the free SyFy Movies of the Week to be screened on the Harbor View Lawn, Pier 1, Brooklyn Bridge Park on Thursday evenings this summer. The series kicks off on July 9 with the quintessential Western (OK, an argument can be made for Shane), Gary Cooper in High Noon. The rest of the lineup:

July 16: Sharknado 2: The Second One.

July 23: Attack the Block.

July 30: Clue.

August 6: Friday.

August 13: Dr. Strangelove (a great favorite of your correspondent’s; you can enjoy it even if you were born after the Cold War, which seems to be in the process of re-frigerating).

August 20: Dazed and Confused.

August 27: Die Hard.

Each move will be preceded by DJ music and a short film or two. For details on the DJs and shorts, see the Gothamist piece linked above.

What I find interesting is that there a few excellent but lesser-known films which should cut down on the crowding to some degree.

Excellent point. It’s as if they wanted to avoid the Bryant Park Movies syndrome.

Unrelated (and absent an open thread Wednesday post), I see the city is starting a year-long project to replace the Borough Hall sidewalks. I never thought it would happen but they’ve already started re-paving the area behind the building.

One common thread these movies share, as the Gothamist piece points out, is that their stories are all contained in one 24 hour period.
