Get a Sneak Preview of New Parkland on Pier 6, Brooklyn Bridge Park

Next Friday, May 1 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Patricia Kirshner, Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Vice President for Capital Planning and Construction will lead “Jane’s Walk,” a tour of the outer two thirds of Pier 6, still under construction, that when completed will include “[a] seasonally vivid flower meadow, winding pathway and lush perimeter plantings.” The event is free, and no RSVP is necessary, but participants “will be required to sign a waiver and should wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.” There’s more information here.

The park hasn’t said when this is expected to open yet though I noticed on their website that the proposed “viewing platform” at the far end is contingent on funding:

It sounds as if they’re going to open the new area without it, which probably makes sense.

What happened to the marina that was supposed to open this Spring?

I would like to hear more information from the park about whether they’re going to build the viewing platform. It’d be an iconic addition to the park. And, making the announcement could bring them a respite from the drumbeat of bad news (Pierhouse blocking the bridge view; shootings at Pier 2; humongous housing coming to Pier 6; etc. etc.).

Dear BBP: please update us on the Bjarke Ingels platform — is it happening? If you’re still uncertain, how is the fundraising going? How far along are you towards your goal? What are the plans to get there?

“Jane’s Walk”: is this named for the charming lady who bulldozed the positioning of a merry-go-round in the middle of the park north of the Brooklyn Bridge?
