BHA Wants Your Views on “Move NY” Plan for Transportation and Infrastructre

The Brooklyn Heights Association is asking our readers to answer a brief survey about the “Move NY Fair Plan,” which is “a comprehensive approach to New York City’s significant transportation infrastructure needs, growing congestion, and rising tolls and transit fares.” There’s a concise overview of the Plan here; the complete document is here.

The survey is here. It is open until this Sunday afternoon, April 12.

Kookla’s Kids Shop! On a whim we put the name of our old shop into Google and found two mentions on the Heights blog. We were delighted to read that our business is still remembered and remembered fondly. It was a labor of love for Fran Soroka who began the business with no experience in retail but had a good idea in the right locale at the right time. We moved west in 1988 but remember the neighborhood with great fondness and in many ways, while we have been gone for 27 years, it will always be thought of as home. To those who remember Kookla’s and particularly to those who patronized our shop, we send you our greetings and a hearty thank you.

Please take a moment to review the summary that Claude linked above and take the BHA survey. The plan is wide-ranging, and there are parts that some will love and others may not. But of particular note to our community is the toll rationalization proposal, which, if implemented, will have a massive positive impact by reducing truck and other commercial traffic through our neighborhood.
