“Wait ’til next year!” was a familiar cry in Brooklyn as the Dodgers fell short year after year, until 1955 (a Series your correspondent, then a fourth grader, watched from the piney woods of the Florida Panhandle) brought, in the words of Brooklyn poet Marianne Moore, “‘Millennium,’ yes; ‘pandemonium’!”*
We had hoped that 2015 would prove magic for Brooklyn Heights’ own St. Francis Terriers as ’55 did for the Dodgers. Alas, it was not to be, as the Terriers fell to the Colonials of Pittsburgh’s Robert Morris University 66-63 in the Northeast Conference Final at St. Francis’ Pope Arena tonight. The Terriers thus remain one of the few Division One teams never to have made it to the NCAA Tournament. But Coach Glenn Braica has developed a strong program, and the Terriers stand to lose only four players to graduation, so perhaps Brooklyn Heights, along with St. Francis, can say “Wait ’til next year!” with some confidence.
