We’ve received this message from the Brooklyn Heights Association on behalf of Heights and Hills:
In an annual tradition that has continued for over 42 years, the Heights and Hills communities come together every year to prepare a Thanksgiving feast for older adults, and the wider community is called upon to bake lots of pies. There can never be too many pies!
A Thanksgiving luncheon is held in Grace Church, 254 Hicks Street on Thanksgiving Day, November 27th. Volunteers are needed to bake pies, seat, serve & chat with the guests, and to help hand-deliver meals to those too frail to attend the luncheon. Many pies are needed so that each guest can take home a freshly baked pie.
The Cobble Hill Health Center cooks the turkeys and fixings. 84th Precinct officers help transport the food to the church. Hundreds of hard working volunteers lend a hand that morning and/or donate baked goods to complete the meal. Depending on the task, volunteers are needed between 10 AM and 3 PM.
To volunteer or to get more information, call Heights and Hills at (718)596-8789 or email them at volunteer@heightsandhills.org. On Thanksgiving Day, call (718) 625-8229.
