Spielberg’s “St James Place” Sets Up Shop A Little Early in Brooklyn Heights

Forget what the signs say–the production that is taking over the neighborhood for days on end has decided that 24 hours of empty streets isn’t enough. By 9 am, production crews had set up cones to prevent parking on multiple blocks.

Calls to the number listed on the sign yielded only voicemail; a call to the 84th went unanswered. Literally: no one picked up the phone. IMG_7505.JPG

Why can’t our community get some kind of financial benefit from all these movies being shot here?

  • marshasrimler

    i suggested that years ago.
Not to the bHA but to the folks that live here.. this should be discussed at a community forum. The BHA says it represent the community but it has less than 1000 members so I am not sure it represents a broad cross-section of the community

I like your buzzwords. You use them a lot here.

I had a movie shoot at my job last week. de Niro was filming The Intern. They don’t pay residence ever, but they do pay local businesses if traffic to their store will be impeded, like our store was.

its all true.. gotta go. enjoy the day

We’ve all complained for years about the movie shoots…but that’s not the real issue here…the real issue here is, should a movie shoot be allowed to take up more than 50% (not sure of the exact number) of the heights, particularly on a Sunday! I think the answer should be no.

What was really frustrating, was that the movie crews’ personal vehicles were parked in the same spots we cannot park in…Why doesn’t the movie crew be forced to park in a pay lot, like most of us were forced to do.

So we not only couldn’t park in a neighborhood on a Sunday! we had to pay weekend prices in the garage…not sure how that is a benefit for us residents.

Furthermore, to do this on the same weekend as the Antic made no sense.

I have a query in to the Mayor’s office of filming (or whatever it’s called about this)–not that I have any hope of getting a response, but I’ll keep trying.

  • MonroeOrange

ok petercrow…than the city needs to provide enough pay garages for people to park in if we can’t park on the street.

  • Remsen Street Dweller

Yes, I know — just looking to elaborate.

Most BH filming in the past hasn’t been as disruptive/noisy as this one appears to be. Constant generator noise and exhaust by me, too. The Mayor’s office, if truly eco-friendly, should consider eco-mandates for production vehicles.

Jeez, guys, neighbors with cars do live here. Production companies could arrange and pay for their garaging!

    And, no, I don’t have a car.
