Flowers that Bloom in the Spring

Now that spring is here in almost full force and temperatures are climbing, on my customary morning walks over the past few days, I’ve seen blossoms in profusion in many locations, starting with these in the garden outside my building on Montague Street.

There are more photos and there is more text after the jump.

Crocuses (Crocae?; Croci?) in Cadman Plaza Park.

Tulips on Cranberry Street.

These are also on cranberry Street.

Some flowers were also on sale at the Borough Hall Greenmarket.

Returning to my building, another view of the garden.

Emmerich Greenhouses — Chris Emmerich has many lovely Spring blooms on sale Tuesdays and Saturdays at the Green Market. Also, there is a new vendor of fresh chicken next to the fish vendor on Saturdays.

If I post a picture of some flowers, can you identify them? We walk past some every morning on the Promenade that I don’t know what they are (they started out as white blooms but now seem to have turned greenish). They’re mixed in with the daffodils between Montague and Pierrepont, I think.

I believe that you are seeing the Helleborus plants. They are amazing…bloom in the winter, survive the coldest weather, and then produce new flowers in the Spring.

That’s exactly it! Thanks – that was driving me nuts every single morning.
