Especially like the pork dish that Jack The Horse usually has on the menu. BUT, became spoiled when they added pork belly to it and when it’s not included, feel cheated.

  • BrooklynCoffeeLover

I really need to check out Jack The Horse. Been slacking. (Moved here almost 2 years ago)

Burger and chicken are excellent too. i think the appetizers are a bit lame and, as mac and cheese goes, that is too. Have had some really good fish there too.

I think there should be a stop sign for east bound traffic at the corner of pierrepont and willow? I see many near accidents there.

I am only posting this bc Joe A asked that i post an article about the bike share program that indicates it is failing….(don’t kill the messenger):

    http://nypost.com/2014/03/22/de-blasio-refuses-public-funds-for-foundering-citi-bike-program/

    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/03/21/citi-bike-remains-in-the-red-looks-to-boost-daily-weekly-ridership/

  • Eddyde

In all fairness, niter of those articles existed when Joe A asked you to produce evidence of your claims.

  • MonroeOrange

As i said to Joe A, i didn’t need to read it on the internet to know it was true…the fact that the articles support all the facts i said to him, after he begged me for an article, just proves what i said all along was true….but of course, he won’t admit it.

You guys, I am really devastated that they killed the tree outside my window. I had no idea until this morning when I looked out my window to see it decimated, all its branches on the ground, cut up. I’m not sure what type it was but it gave blackberry type fruit that many, many neighborhood bluejays, cardinals and other transient birds and squirrels ate from during the summer.

When I saw it like that I just couldn’t help but cry and cry like I lost a friend. I had sat and enjoyed its changes through the seasons for the over 20 years I have been here.

If any of you know why this happened or share in my sorrow, it would mean a lot to me to hear from you.

the issue is we need to not think of it as a money-making venture, but rather a necessary investment in transportation infrastructure. The MTA loses money just about every year, as does every subway system, but that’s not a reason to close them.

  • DIBS

From the photo, it looks to be in someone’s yard so the owner of the property’s decision to do so. Those berry trees can make a lot of mess on the ground and probably on the neighbor’s lot too and maybe they both just got tired of that.

Love JTH! Love the Hangar Steak and I have to disagree DIBS, I deem the mac & cheese the best I have ever eaten, bar none. Great cocktails as well … my wife and I (before the baby) would often sit at the bar for a very enjoyable night out in the hood.

  • DIBS

Is that what resulted in the baby??? LOL

BTW, Patti LaBelle’s mac & cheese recipe is the best out there.

  • Peter Loibl

haha, thanks for the tip DIBS! Will definitely have to check out Patti LaBelle’s.

Let’s just say a stiff drink from JTH never dulls the mood, no pun intended haha

You are right that it may have something to do with where the tree is. But it makes me sad because that tree was doing a service to them, by giving shade and adding to the beauty of the back area and blocking their view of the surrounding buildings…. not to mention the wildlife that the tree supported. I think when one chops down a tree one has to think first about those things and not just about how annoying it is that the leaves drop in the fall or a few berries get on the roof. A tree in fact, belongs not just to the owner of the property but to community. Part of the preservation of this neighborhood depends on its trees. Just look at how different this place looks since all the devastation of trees after the last hurricane. Its sad to live in the heights for so long and see terrible changes like this one.

“A tree in fact, belongs not just to the owner of the property but to community. ”

I bet you’d vote for Elizabeth Warren if you could.

No, it doesn’t. Is the community going to pitch in to keep it trimmed? Doubtful.

I hav a beautiful flowering catalpa in my yard. i removed it because those long seed pods were a major PITA to keep cleaning up. No one in the community offered to come help.

  • PistachioPony

I’m not sure why my sadness over the loss of trees in my neighborhood angers you so much. Nor why you would choose to politicize such a simple statement from my heart. And most of all, I’m sorry that you choose this forum to be a simpleton troll. Good day, sir.

  • DIBS

    ((rolls eyes))

I understand your sadness but your justification of why it shouldn’t have been taken down is misguided at best. It’s a matter of property rights. You don’t know the circumstances. maybe they were having problems with adjacent neighbor complaints about the problems the tree was causing.

Your resorting to name calling indicates a lesser person.

  • DIBS

I don’t care about Citibike one way or the other but I applaud DeBlahsio for getting something right

  • talker1

The site owner should keep you in check. One sure fire way to drive traffic away is a troll with nothing better to do than comment in every post.

  • DIBS

Or those who actually add nothing to the discussion but feel compelled to act as hall monitor, like you. Sorry but PP’s reasoning is faulty and I’m sure every homeowner would agree. It was after all, PP who resorted to the name calling, not me.

  • MonroeOrange

While i don’t disagree with you…MTA servicces 8 million people and goes to every part of NYC…this bike share program will never be a part of the transportation infrastructure if they can’t even effectively manage 6,000 bikes in very few areas….

  • MonroeOrange

    OUCHHHHHHH:)

  • DIBS

Some of us have thicker skins than you, Orange. Her immature name calling is just that.

Mac and Cheese at Henry St. Ale House is surprisingly good!

Anyone know what’s going in at the former Mr. Video III spot? I saw paper in the windows. Not sure if that means a new business or just hiding the ugly empty store front.

  • DIBS

Being a good neighbor also would include taking care of annoying trees. How many threads in the various Brooklyn blogs have dealt with people who have had prolems with trees in the yards of unresponsive neighbors? Many. A bit hypocritical and disingenuous to call me out on negative energy and not those who who are here resorting to name calling.

JTH has an AMAZING brunch. With bloody marys, replete with bacon swizzle sticks.
