I’m gonna have to go with the Siggy’s turkey burger. I didn’t know those could even taste good, let alone cause taste bud orgasms!

“merguez sandwich at Tutt Cafe” i did not know that they have a merguez sandwich!
now we know what i am having for lunch today!

  • mews ments

    chip butty at chip chop!

While Nicky’s is good, Hanco’s on Begen blows ’em away!

Theresa’s chicken salad on their awesome whole wheat (more like multi-grain) toast is awesome!

I can tell you don’t ever get the meatloaf sandwich at Teresa’s. It is a fried greasy solid slab of mysterious meat, and not served with fixings other than a side salad, if I recall. Totally not what I expected.

all the sandwiches at petes waterfront, otherwise the bagel shop or siggy’s. lassen is overpriced and mediocre!

Are you kidding about Lassen’s being overpriced? It’s $7.50 for a good fresh sandwich. What are you comparing your prices to? McDonald’s. You can’t get a Lassen’s quality sandwich in midtown for less than $12-15. It’s almost worth it to take my lunch to work with me.

A burger at the Heights Cafe costs $15 in comparison.

I don’t even want to begin to think of eating from Garden of Eden since I found something mysterious in my beef stew.

I’m pretty partial to the L&H Express at Lassen’s. It’s roast beef, l&t with bacon(!), smoked cheddar and 1000 island dressing. A heart-stopper for sure, it’s not (or shouldn’t be) an everyday thing. But boy does it hit the spot from time to time. Have loved HPM’s deli sandwiches for years as well and lately Tazza’s London Broil has been keeping our mom-to-be pretty happy.

  • DuMont Burger

At Lassen & Hennigs, it’s the DuMont sandwich, of course!
They have to be one of the best deli/bakeries around.
They don’t skimp on the ingredients and their stuff is moderately priced, fresh and decent.
There’s also a lot of good stuff at their sister shop Court Order. Not for sandwiches, but the guy at the chili station is a pisser!
Plus in both locations all the people are super nice. Everywhere.

Anyone know where I can get a muffeletta outside of New Orleans?

The “Breakfast Panini” at The DUMBO General Store – eggs, slab bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion on pressed ciabatta, then add a splash of hot sauce.

The Waldof Chicken Salad at Lassen’s is terrific.

Siggy’s makes an excellent turkey burger as well.

Tutt Cafe has an excellent falafel which is wrapped rather than sloppily stuffed into a pita.

Believe it or not, the pizza place in DUMBO makes a decent chicken parm.

The GRILLED CHEESE at Jack’s is off the charts!

Second the vote of Hanco’s over Nicky’s.

The Meatloaf Melt at Clark’s is quite good.

And I think generally anything sandwich from Tazza hits the mark.

But the best new sandwich in town has got to be coming from the red Kings County BBQ truck parked at the corner of Front and Washington every weekend now — gigantic pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches with slaw and pickles…pretty authentic, all considering, and damn good.

Still, none of the above compare with anything coming out of DeFontes in Red Hook which is worth the drive for the roast beef, moz, and gravy hero as well as just about anything else!

  • schermerhorn

La Bagel Delight on Court near Schermerhorn is a worthy competitor to Ho’Bag’s (Hot Bagels).

And I don’t see Martinelli lasting a year. Should have spent more recruiting counter guys, less on the decorator.

I don’t eat deli meat, so I’ve found that Siggy’s ‘cheese lovers’ with brie, fig and apple – yum. Also the avocado sandy at Perelandra (in the back!) is very good as well.

The falafel at Heights Falafel is very good.
It is crispy on the outside and juicy and soft inside.
The tahini they use is good, not watered down.
