Taperia Opens On Montague Street [Video]

Karl Junkersfeld was on the scene today as Taperia opened for business at 132 Montague Street. BHB reported in January (!) that the eatery would be opening in March. So much for target dates, eh?

Karl adds:

The neighborhood has anticipated the opening of Taperia for some time now at it has finally arrived. It looks great and should contribute, along with Custom House, to making Montague Street a neighborhood destination when the sun goes down.

Just an added note, Bobby Cruz was the general contractor for Taperia and not one of the owners. There are two owners, one is Nando of Bueno Gusto, seen sitting at the bar in the beginning of the video, and his partner who was there for both lunch and dinner. I have attached a link to a very interesting article about the garden area in the back which now has outdoor dining area with heated lamps. Definitely worth the read.

Bravo! Looking forward to a visit.

    I like that music.

  • Karl Junkersfeld

The music at Taperia is excellent. A lot of Salsa tunes which go perfect with the Spanish food. Atmosphere is also very bright and airy. I could definitely see myself sitting at the bar and having some red sangria on a nice afternoon like tomorrow. The staff are attractive but not in an Manhattan super model attractiveness way. You know what I mean?

So looking forward to Taperia, until I just read that it is owned by Buon Gusto owners. What a disappointment. Owners may be nice guys, but the food at Buon Gusto is average at best. It’s a restaurant you would find in Rome catering to middle america tourists. Pretty disappointing

frank, im frankly disappointed in your frank assessment of the new restaurant. I would think you should actually try it first.

we know what you mean Karl, you mean we all have a chance with the waitresses!

I’ll have my tapas in Madrid, thank you. They get it over there.

Just passed by the place. It looks beautiful from the sidewalk. Any place that makes Montague look more attractive is a welcome addition in my book. I don’t get the negativity and prejudgment in some of the comments. Small businesses need our support.

I agree, the Bon Gusto connection does raise some concerns. However, I will check the new place out. Hopefully, the chef and staff know what they’re doing.

Had the roast pork sandwich for lunch there today — delicious! Great place — welcome to the neighborhood.

I now understand why Mr. Junkersfeld declined to review the food. If you’re thinking of dining here, you may want to check out my Yelp review first: http://www.yelp.com/biz/taperia-restaurant-brooklyn#hrid:zupLuZD6tpJWx3ik61mReA

    Sounds dreadful, what a shame.
    Thanks for the heads up.

So someone didn’t like the fact that I enjoyed my lunch at Taperia today.
