Paul Giamatti Speaks!

Paul Giamatti, lovable harumpher around town, granted an interview with DNAInfo where he revealed that he visits local joints Teresa’s and Hanco’s. Unsurprisingly, he said he picked Brooklyn Heights to live in because, “I think it was just something pretty mellow and different from where I had lived, which was in the Lower East Side.” Surprisingly, he did not know Moonstruck was filmed here. But I think all can agree with his feelings toward the R line: “I used to be on the R. It was the most convenient line for me. It was right around the corner and now it’s shut down for like the next 12 years or something. It’s a big pain in the ass. That was the line that got me everywhere I needed to go. No more.     I’m fairly sure, having looked at the photo, that I saw him at Hanco’s a couple of weekends ago. As I went down the stairs to where you wait to get takeout, I saw a stocky man, bald in front and with thick framed glasses, sitting on the bench. When our eyes met briefly, I saw what I took to be simple wariness of strangers, but now I’m confident the subtext was: “Please don’t bore me with how great you thought I was in Sideways, and for God’s sake don’t ask me if I really hate Merlot.”

    I just saw him outside Vineapple and he scowled when I recognized him. It must be annoying to have the “do I know you from somewhere” level of fame though. Also spotted Adam Driver turning the corner onto Pineapple this weekend. Why is it never Björk?
