We will be posting a Parents and Kids open thread regularly. This is a place to let other parents (including your humble publisher!) about events, classes and other activities for kids in and around Brooklyn Heights. It’s also a place to ask questions you may have in general about parenting, schools and other family related topics in the area.

    Things are starting up again at the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue Parenting Center, with programming for children age 0-5!

    WELCOMING SHABBAT resumes 9/20 and is every FRIDAY at 11:00 (free, drop-in)

    BOUNCING BABIES PLAYGROUP resumes 10/10 and is every THURSDAY at 9:30 (free/drop-in)

    TOT SHABBAT is the first SATURDAY of each month at 9:30.

    HIGH HOLIDAYS – free community children’s services at 2pm on Rosh Hashanah (9/5) and Yom Kippur (9/14). These services will be held at BHS – 131 Remsen Street.

    It is a good enough choice in an otherwise choice less district.
    Many families have gone from PS 8 to MS 8 so the student body is pretty much the same; and the fact that your kid can walk there… priceless!
    The only issue is the traffic situation around the school. Tillary St has some complicated intersections.

  • 8 and Up, Youth Entrepreneursh

    Youth Entrepreneurship Program is coming to DUMBO! If you have a creative 8-10yr old with a flair of maker & invention in them (or obsessed with makerbot prototypes)– please pass the word on about a great new 6wk course starting close by in Brooklyn. 8 and Up is teaching entrepreneurship to kids in a hands-on, fun way using gadgets, games and 3D printers.

    Sessions are on Thursdays from 4- 5:30pm and Saturdays at 10 or 2pm. Class starts October 10 and space is limited. Program details and registration can be found at http://www.8andup.com or by contacting Christina at christina@8andup.com .
