As previously mentioned, Banana Republic is filming a Christmas commercial outside soon-to-open restaurant Sociale. Our man with a cam Karl Junkersfeld stopped by … with his cam. Here’s what he caught.

my favorite part of the video is the end, where Karl says ‘ughhhhh, I hate this bike’…Karl please explain?

  • Karl Junkersfeld

MonroeOrange it is a long story. This bike with its appendage has moved from 4 locations on Middagh due to complaints by home owners. AEB was the latest to leave a polite note that convinced her to move across the street. Myself, I love Brooklyn Heights and just love walking around enjoying the architecture and lovely tree lined streets. I have no problem with bikes being locked up to varying poles on the street but the attachment is just a bit much IMHO. It is not the end of the world but just an annoyance and a small one at that. Basically I’m just poking fun. Would I prefer not seeing it everyday? Yes but such is living in the big city. Other than that, I truly believe that Brooklyn Heights is the best neighborhood in the entire city and I grew up on the upper west side and know NYC as well as anyone. One last note, the Squibb Bridge, down the block, is outstanding and I walk it everyday. BBP rocks.

This is Karl’s “that’s some bad hat harry” http://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2010/04/thats-some-bad-hat-harry.html

  • David on Middagh

“Uy, I hate this bike!” Perfect intonation.

A vanity card for “Pedestrian Productions”, maybe?

Glad to see Karl back on the job – I was missing him lately.

Has Sociale got a special desert working hype with Banana splits?

thanks Karl…love this neighborhood too, born and raised, and always appreciate people like you who see how wonderful it is.

And as far as that bike goes, its an eyesore with that rear attachment..someone people think they own the sidewalks…my motto is, if you want a bike, store it in your house, not the sidewalk, hallway or chain link fence out front!

Agree with all posters here who object to this conveyance being parked on the narrow sidewalk and appropriating a public space. I pass it every day. Does anyone know who the owner is? Is it ever used? Have the residents of this block joined together to confront the owner? Check with BHA or CB2 about any action that could be taken?
