If the possibility that someone might die because of the extra time it takes to get across a bridge in heavy traffic, or to some remote ER in Brooklyn–see the map Bill de Blasio put in the SaveLICH tweets–doesn’t make sense to you, you are either unfortunately or intentionally ignorant.

The unions have expressed willingness to negotiate with SUNY; their offer was spurned. So much for “power.”

Can you be specific about what was so bad about your experience at LICH? In addition to the three good experiences mentioned in my earlier post, I also had an an inpatient procedure there, and my daughter was hospitalized there twice for MRSA infections, and in both instances received excellent care. Many people I know have also had good treatment at LICH. I’ll put my six good experiences up against your one bad one.

Can you document your assertion that “most people do not want a hospital in their town”?

  • Peter Pan

And you? You act like someone’s tool.

Did it get hit by a Citibike?

  • MonroeOrange

    Arch, the adults are talking…shhhhhh

  • Team BeeBop

Still Here, how do you know that The Heights Player’s received queries about BeeBop as it’s NOT posted on their facebook wall? Do you have insider info?

  • Still Here

I was told that it was posted on their FB page.

  • HenryLOL

It is not your right to have a hospital down the block. 99.9% of people in this country do not. They have a right to close.

  • HenryLOL

Are you kidding me? You must be the asinine one — or you have never owned a home outside of the City. NOBODY wants a hospital in their town. NOBODY.

  • Pineapple Walk

Thank you Claude, for your reasoned comments backed by facts and devoid of hyperbole. Henry is incapable of responding in kind, so he just repeats his nonsensical opinions. Notice he never answered your question about what was specifically bad about his experience at LICH. He’s probably never even been inside.

  • Team BeeBop

Thanks for responding. Can’t seem to find it on their FB page…hmmm.

Have you taken a survey of the entire population of the United States?

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

I never said it was my “right” to have a hospital down the block. I do claim the right to oppose what I think is a terrible public policy decision that doesn’t affect just me, my family and my neighbors, but thousands of people within a radius of several miles, including residents of public housing in Red Hook.

  • David on Middagh

Claude’s goldfish-pond photo reminds me of that famous Matisse…

  • Heightsman

And if you lived in the Alaskan Klondike and the closest hospital was a plane ride away it would be not a “right” but a terrible public policy decision not to have a hospital “around the corner” from your home. Get real folks. Live a little in the real world….not the entitled.

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

If I lived in a remote area of Alaska I would understand that I was taking that risk. LICH is an existing facility representing a considerable investment serving a catchment area larger than many small cities. Closing it will expose residents of that area to a “real” threat of death or irreversible brain damage because of increased transit times to distant emergency rooms.

    You’ve made my day!

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

If your are an adult I must be dead, oh wait, I am.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

That is a ridiculous analogy. You must be one of those “Tea Party” “thinkers” LOL

  • Team BeeBop

Still Here, all she really just wants is her cat back.
No questions asked. There really is a $2000 reward. BeeBop can be picked up within a day and at that point we will take down the FB page.

I was wondering when someone would touch on the issue of declining property values if there is no local hospital AND no library. This is Brooklyn Heights. The zip code is supposedly the fifth most expensive place to live. There aren’t enough schools and yet condos are being built left and right. There will come a time when BH is not as thrilling a neighborhood as it used to be.

  • Peter Pan

LOL. So, you didn’t get your expected “happy ending” from the student nurse at LICH? Try the Blue Diamond Massage Parlor on Henry and State Street. Ask for the Blue Plate Special. Tell them you are a property owner – they like that.
