Parking in Brooklyn Heights

I don’t own a car, but I imagine parking has not gotten any better around here recently? I spotted this on Henry Street yesterday. Which came first, the Minivan or the Audi? Looks like the Minivan, with the Audi trying to, literally, wedge its way in. The fact that it has one of those bumper thingies leads me to believe this is not the first time!

Parking is always terrible in the neighborhood and the loss of spots for various reasons –those new curbs, changes in parking regulations for reasons unknown (for instance, at several spots on Hicks, the “no parking” areas on the west side of the street have gotten bigger), the bikes–means that it’s harder than ever. Fact of life, got to deal with it, but definitely a drag, and there’s no question that dozens have spots have been eliminated over the last year or so.

It looks like an incidence of auto-eroticism.

What’s gotten harder is free, on-street parking, of privately-owned vehicles.

Which is, of course, the subject of the post, but it’s kind of you to make that clear in case anyone didn’t understand.

Your objection to free, on-street parking is well-known and well-documented, and I hope that you’re taking every opportunity you have to lobby your local representatives for paid parking permits or to eliminate entirely on-street parking for private parking, further disadvantaging all but the very wealthy in the neighborhood and city.

bumpers are for bumping – he can squeeze in, he can squeeze out. That’s the nature of the beast.

I’m a big supporter of residential parking permits.

How many spots exactly have been lost?

Also note that the new extended curbs at corners (“Neckdowns”) are a dramatic safety improvement for pedestrians. We need more of them.
