On this date in 1856, Frank L. Baum was born in Chittenango, N.Y. He is, of course, best known for writing “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” And just as magical… It’s another Open Thread Wednesday on the Brooklyn Heights Blog. What’s on your mind? Comment away! (CT)

Ok, let me try again. How about picking up a couple of sandwiches from Lassen’s and head over to the Promenade, find a nice bench and watch the sun set and the NY skyline come to life with a million shining lights?

Along the lines of Heather’s post, what’s a good local spot for outdoor drinking on a date? Most of the places I’ve been that have nice spaces have a less than fantastic drink selection. Appreciate the leads. Thanks!

I usually use “pig in a box” to mean how I feel when stuck in the non-moving security boxes for 12 hours at a time, but, like other offensive terms, it has been reclaimed for the exclusive use of those it was originally meant to offend, so the rest of you should probably just call him/her the officer in the three wheeled scooter.

Yes! I’ve been wondering the same thing! I work at home, and that beeping – along with the *&%$ Bossert trash truck that idles on Hicks all day long – is aural torture (ok, “torture” may be a bit strong, but you catch my drift). This isn’t the first time for that beeping; it happened a couple months ago too, and is hard to pinpoint exactly where it’s coming from. It’s minor, yet maddening.

I talked to the guard at the Bossert entrance – he said they had the fire alarm company in yesterday fixing something. I told him it’s been going on 24×7 for 4 days and he logged the complaint. The noise is coming from high up, so it’s hard to pinpoint where it is coming from Bloomy, and I said as much to the guard, but the Bossert seems likely, since it’s unoccupied. If others could stop by and log a complaint, that might be helpful.

DEFINITELY recommend Juliana’s over Grimaldi’s. The atmosphere is much nicer, the pizza is better, and the wait staff are actually friendly. Plus you won’t have to wait outside for two hours just to get in.

  • Still beeping

Thanks, JoAnne. I’ll stop by after work to log a complaint. I assume it will still be going on…

While there aren’t a ton of options, I enjoy the outdoor back area at Gran Electrica. They have a drink called Vida de Mole (I think, something like that) that has Mezcal and is simply fantastic. Plus, the food rocks!

I’ve been wondering about that myself …
