That’s the secret community garden on the Willow St. extension (or is it Poplar?) that curves behind Middagh.

  • Lois

Yes, that’s the community garden at the end of Willow Street. Attended an open house there last spring when they had a worker from the parks department teaching you how to prune a tree. It’s a little known neighborhood gem (they even have a beehive there.)

  • Lois

Who else plans to be on the promenade at 6:48 this morning to welcome the official arrival of spring? Claude, Homer, anyone?

  • GM

For a few years now, I’ve watched a couple of older, goggle-wearing gentlemen walk around the S Heights. Does anyone know their story? Thanks!

  • Hicks St Guy

saw that the AM New York boxes are full again, should result in more trash in subway cars, platforms and tracks.

Has anyone noticed that the architectural monstrosity squatting at the corner of Hicks and State which unaccountably got landmarks approval is entirely swaddled in scaffolding? The building is ugly, of course, and obviously used cheap materials but now, it seems, we must add a charge of incompetent construction if so soon after it was first built – what, five years ago? – it requires major renovation. We must also mention that many of the inhabitants of the building appear to share the religious affiliation of the builders, an affiliation universally celebrated for its broad-mindedness, culture, love of beauty, and charm.

  • ClaudeScales

If it was built five years ago it’s probably due for inspection and facade repair (if necessary) under a local law that requires such for buildings over a certain height. The law was prompted by a Columbia student being killed by a piece of falling masonry.

  • GHB

And which shared religious affiliation is that, Topham?

  • David on Middagh

6:48 AM? Wow, and I thought *I* was a night owl! No, I’ll be going to bed before then, thank you very much.

  • Topham Beauclerk

GHB, you ask which affiliation I refer to. Surely the one that best fits my description.

  • MonroeOrange

To qoute you from your previous post ‘Buy a Damn Newspaper!’

And my dog says hello, via his pee on Hicks St!

  • GHB

    Any religion could apply, no?

Anyone still trying to argue that comments are up since Disqus?

And this makes me very happy! It’s a great convenience. I like to do the crossword puzzle on the way into work, and the box is right on my way to the station.

Also, I’d like to think that most people don’t throw their trash on the subway platforms and tracks. I know I don’t.
I’ve gotten used to the trash within our subways. Have you not? Try Washington D.C. Absolutely spotless metro. I’m sure they would love to have you!

  • Hicks St Guy

I don’t care to disagree with you again, don’t need to hear your puerile, childish name calling. But no one should get used to litter, you quintessential NY’er you.

I just talked to a neighbor of theirs on Willow Place. They are both still alive and “bouncing along”. They were born in Spain, and are dedicated socialists. ie. Yuppie haters. So, they stay inside more now that the hood is flooded with rich me, me people.

  • David on Middagh

    Spanish socialists from the future!

    The neighborhood rocks.

  • Hicks St Guy

    less than $.02

  • David on Middagh

    That’s one’s not for sale.

  • Andrew Porter

That building is easily 10 years old now. And NOT owned by the JWs.

  • David on Middagh

    Zoroastrians?

comments and visitors i bet are way down, whether that is just the natural progression for a site…i will say, the open threads recently are borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiinggggggg!…Bring back Gerry…that’s right i said it!

  • BrooklynBugle

You are wrong as anyone who goes back in the archives can see. Last year at the same time OTW had 30-add comments. Same is true for the last few OTWs this month. As for traffic and uniques, we’re breaking records every week.

Let us all pray for an Easter MIRACLE and the return of Beebop. We all know that he’s being held somewhere maybe by Pontius Pilate himself! You selfish Brooklyn Heights types don’t care and I don’t know why I’m even blogging here.
