Open Thread Wednesday For March 13, 2013

Put it all together and today is a mathematical anomaly, of sorts: March 13, 2013 = 03/13/13. Since there’s no 13/13/13, that’s about as clever as it’s going to get this year, right? (Okay, yes, there is 11/12/13.) Meanwhile, today’s the day for you to wax clever on all things in your Heights purview. Comment away! (CT/Columbia Heights)

I am looking for a hair stylist – someone who is good with thick, wavy hair (that doesn’t like to grow long even though I would love it). It would be nice to stay close to home, but s/he doesn’t have to be in Brooklyn Heights. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I go to Salon Van Sickel where Diana does my hair and she is wonderful. It’s right here in the Heights on Middagh Street.

Another nice photo. Is that Bjork’s bike?

My hair is wavy but not thick, and I’ve spent years trying to find someone–including curly hair specialists at Devachan–and always end up frustrated. I went to Eimi in Eastern Athletic Club last month and I’m thrilled with how she cut my hair, and the prices are affordable.

That’s clearly Columbia Heights. Bjork lives on Henry.

What about 11/12/13? That’s good for later this year. Also my wife loves Chic Elegance on court and Douglas for her hair and great prices

Leticia at Boy Luv Girl Salon on Atlantic is wonderful.

Fryzura Salon on Clark has a great stylist in Mario. He’s busy a lot. It’s right next to Tazzo…very convenient to the gym.

Small army of police officers surrounded, then arrested the driver of a black Range Rover around 4 this morning on State near Clinton. Anyone know what was going on?

Norida at Fabio Scalia on Montague, I’ve been with her for years. Also recommend Rocco for color.

  • Mompom

I have thick curly hair and also tried Devachan. I much prefer Luzma at the Diva Salon on Henry near Orange. She does a great job and recommends good products.

Does anyone know of a place where I can recycle/discard an old laptop and other older computer components/connections?

  • Bob Stone

Try eWaste Warehouse, 469 President St. (at Nevins), 718.858.8777.

  • Bob Sacamano

That sounds like a winner. Thanks.

Gerry owns a range rover (or at least says he does)….just sayin

Anyone know what the deal is with AM New York lately?

It’s been weeks since they’ve had solid deliveries to their red boxes around the neighborhood.

  • Hicks St Guy

that’s a shame, and there’s less litter in the subway too. buy a damn newspaper.

  • Andrew Porter

New pope elected, but no word on who it is. Guess what’s going to be the top news story on every single news outlet in the Western world today?

  • Hicks St Guy

Mr Porter, it’s Jorge Bergoglio from Argentina.

  • MonroeOrange

Hick St. Guy…lots of hostility from you about newspapers! I guess a dog peed on a tree on Hick St. today huh?!

  • Wiley E.

Gerry didn’t get to be elected Pope this year. Maybe next time.

Thank you all for your help. So nice to have this blog as a neighborhood resource!

Asya on Henry is evidently closed. Sad, they were easily the best Indian food inBH

  • Miriam

You would definitely want to try the owner at Salon Fryzura across from the Clark Street stop (Stas). He has the first chair as most owners do – and he is really, really great for thick, wavy hair. I have been in multiple cities and spent years trying to find someone. He is, honestly, without a doubt the best I’ve gone to ever.

  • GHB

Sorry to hear that! Their food was very good, and the place had a nice staff and good atmosphere. We constantly bitch and moan about our restaurant choices in the Heights, and when we finally get something that people seem to want, no one goes. I’m always hoping for a Mexican place, but why bother? It wouldn’t stand a chance!

  • PierrepontSkin

I should have figured. I came on here and asked a legit question, and a d-bag with an attitude has a dick answer.

Hey Monty, I am not sure where you got that information, but we are open :). We are also participating in Dine in Brooklyn this week!

  • Allie

Definitely Diana at Van Sickel on Middagh. Great for cut, color and style.
