Sleepy’s Winter Window Waterloo

Anyone shopping for a mattress at Sleepy’s (116 Montague Street) over the weekend got quite a wake-up call, as the front windows were completely removed for replacement. Brrr! By Monday, the retailer had again been sealed tight as the facade and signage continue an overhaul. In December, we reported Sleepy’s stately new stone facade.

Expansion of the former one-story building has been in works since 2009, when the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the design of three additional residential stories, designed by architect John S. Newman of Lindsay Newman Architecture in Manhattan.

The new three-story construction has been complete for more than a year, with no signs of activity within. Building permits remain on the front door, with no active realtor listings in place… still.
