The choice of synthetic turf was just one aspect of the project that irked parkgoers, including veterans who were angry over a plan to move flagpoles from a Brooklyn war memorial.
"Sometimes you just can't fight a group of people who forgot about World War II veterans," said Roy Vanasco, 81, a veteran who lives in Fort Greene. "We won World War II, but we lost this battle."
