Open Thread Wednesday: January 23, 2013

Happy Open Thread Wednesday for January 23, 2013. Interesting numbers, given that temps this week are in the neighborhood of 13 to 23 degrees or so, eh? So what’s making you feel hot, cold, bothered and blithe? Comment away, BHB minions! (Photo/Joralemon & Court streets: CT)

I agree, as long as someone does not violate the “terms of service” they should be able to say whatever they want. If some people don’t what a particular poster says they can simply ignore their posts. We don’t need some Orwellian nanny-bot looking over our shoulders.

  • Mr. Crusty

As much as I hate Gerry, I agree GHB, I don’t think he should be censored. Let the down arrows speak for themselves

  • DIBS

“I don’t think we should be able to block Gerry’s (always entertaining) ramblings and ridiculous boasts. Anybody else agree?”

    I agree.

For some people to be able to flag comments just because they don’t agree with their world view is ridiculous , consorship and against the first amendment

  • DIBS

    Agree

Besides, Gerry can be entertaining. Think village idiot, even though it seems he an I are somewhat aligned politically.

But I think he lives in the skanky part of BH. LOL

I think I’m on the same page as you.

I think Amazon has a good system, which one can sometimes see in action in User Reviews when the comments on a user review become heated. When a comment to a user review is sufficiently disliked, the comment is collapsed and you see the message, “Customers didn’t think this comment added to the discussion. Show anyway?” So you can see the polarizing stuff if you really want to.

I think that only 3rd-party spam, or words that are blowing up the board, should be actually removed by a moderator. So I still believe in hands-on moderation and judgment.

apparently “no parking thursday” signs were put up on half of monroe place yesterday or this morning with no indication of what would happen or what for, ie. no movie, police order, phone numbers, nothing.

can they just pop up signs and take cars and likely ticket and tow? that would be a great revenue generator. pop-up no parking zones. jerks.

i had to put my car in the cadman garage, no choice. $17 is better than $60+tow or worse, but i still call BS on it all.

    When you’re strange
Faces come out of the rain
    When you’re strange
    No one remembers your name
    When you’re strange

    How do you define strange?

  • James

he mumbles to himself a lot and always seems overly friendly. He is skinny, tanned, wears a lot of plaid and a blue baseball cap a lot. Do you know who I’m talking about?

  • Gerry

@ Gergory – Monore Place is a target for pop-up zones. The DOT relocates cars to another street in the area does not impound them or ticket when these pop-up zones go up. You blew $17 on Cadman for nothing.

  • Gerry

There are no high end automobile dealerships in downtown Brooklyn. To get a new car I need to go to Manhattan or suburbs. Glen Cove, NY is the nearest Range Rover dealer. Seems to me a few auto dealers would do very well around here.

  • James

The strange man i am talking about is older, very skinny and mumbles to himself. He is also very overly friendly. Ive seen him wearing plaid a lot white a blue baseball cap. Does anyone know who he is?

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

Yeah, I think I know who you’re talking about. I don’t know anything about him. He seems pretty harmless. What’s the deal?

Gerry I’m disappointed, all you got a Range Rover. That’s kind of “mid end” in my book. I imagined you drive something more upscale, like a Maybach.

  • MonroeOrange

Gerry, your so insecure, telling us now about your Range Rover…Don’t you realize that a truly wealthy person doesn’t go around bragging…you must be new money, no class…that is of course if you even exist

Also, weren’t you concerned about security reasons, thats why you won’t tell us your blogs website…now we know what car you drive, in addition to every other detail about you. How’s that au pair? She tell your wife yet?

  • Rebecca

really? thats so scary. what does he look like? have you ever seen him?

  • GHB

Gerry, how many aliases do you have? Your inability to form a sentence gives you away every time!

  • willowL

His crime was back in the 70’s…since then he has no criminal activity. you can see it for yourself on the Family watch dog website. Obviously I understand for someone with kids this must be uncomfortable, but he’s lived in the heights for a really long time and there have been no incidents.

  • Rebecca

have you ever seen him before? this is very frightening even if he has been behaving

  • Willowl

Yes, I have. When I was 18 I used to hostess at heights cafe and would get orders from his address. I also see him on the daily. This is the truth , he’s been living in the neighborhood for years and has never done anything. If in all honesty u have an issue maybe contact the police? But there’s nothing he’s done since the 70’s that merits a real concern.

  • Rebecca

no concern really, this is just new to me. i will be cautious though. do you think a lot of people in the neighborhood are aware of him?

  • Mr. Crusty

Always talking about yourself aren’t you?

  • Gerry

At The Unitarian Church of All Souls it had been Lay Sunday recent nominees for Trustees spoke. We are home now to settle in for a long winters night safe and warm with a great dinner in the works. Life does not get better than this.

  • WillowL

I’m not sure to be honest
