Hello, Holly! Meet Brooklyn Heights Official 2012 Christmas Tree

The tradition of a Promenade Christmas Tree goes back to before there was an actual Promenade. Some 63 years later, it continues to be a Brooklyn Heights tradition. Here is 2012’s official tree, standing tall and proud with hundreds of colorful lights at the Montague Street entrance to the Heights Promenade. (Photo: CT)

    Chuck,
That is a beautiful picture of the Christmas tree at the Promenade. I want to thank you for doing such a great job. I love it here in the Heights.

Yes, we should thank the Brooklyn Heights Garden Club for buying the tree and decorations! They have been doing it year in and year out since the early years of the promenade.

Wondering why the tree wasn’t lit at 6:00 this evening.

As a little girl in the early 60s I was wildly jealous of my best friend and neighbor on Monroe Place, who got to light this tree each year. Her grandfather was John Cashmore, Bklyn Borough President. I didn’t know when this tradition started so thank you for providing the number of years (63). I certainly wouldn’t have been eligible to do the task anyway given that we were Jewish! :)
