Subway Service Alerts: Weekend and the Following Week

The slo-mo do-si-do of the A and F trains continues: last weekend, Manhattan bound A trains were taking the F line, but this weekend (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 5:00 a.m. Monday) Brooklyn bound F trains are taking the A line between West 4th Street and Jay Street-Metro Tech. This means no service from Manhattan to York Street in DUMBO–and this on the weekend of the DUMBO Arts Festival–so you can either take an F to Jay Street and change there for a Manhattan bound F back to York Street, or take a Brooklyn bound A, C, or F to High Street and walk down the hill to DUMBO. To get to Brooklyn from LES stops–B’way- Lafayette, 2nd Avenue, Delancey, and E. B’way–take an uptown F to West 4th and change for a Brooklyn bound A, C, or F there. This is the only weekend diversion directly affecting service at any station in our immediate area. But for travelers into or from Manhattan or deeper Brooklyn, there is more.

Those traveling to or from Manhattan should know that C trains won’t be stopping at Spring, 23rd, or 50th streets in either direction. E trains will be stopping at these stations, and you can transfer from an A or C to an E at Canal, West 4th, 14th, 34th, or 42nd. Those traveling into Brooklyn should know that, just like last weekend, between 6:00 a.m. Saturday and 10:00 p.m. Sunday, there will be no 3 train service beyond Franklin Avenue, and between 4:00 a.m. Saturday and 9:00 a.m. Sunday, no 4 service between Utica Avenue and New Lots Avenue. Too get to Utica or stations between there and Franklin, change to a 4 at Franklin, which will make all local stops. To get to New Lots or stations between there and Utica, shuttle buses will be provided.

Late nights (!2;01 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.) the following week (Tuesday through Friday), the do-si-do reverses again, as Manhattan bound A trains are diverted to the F line between Jay Street and West 4th. This means no Manhattan bound service at High Street (C trains don’t run during these late hours), so to get to Manhattan from the North Heights either walk down the hill to York Street to catch the A or F for LES stops, West 4th, or above, or go to Clark Street for the 2 or 3, or Borough Hall for the 4. The N (which replaces the R at Court Street and Jay street during these hours) is not an option, as it will be diverted over the Manhattan Bridge between Canal street and DeKalb Avenue in both directions.
