Are Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew Broderick Brooklyn Heights-Bound?

Back in March, it was national news that Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick were purchasing a pair of townhouses in south Brooklyn Heights on State Street near Sidney Place, which would total 7,000sf when combined. It was reported then that the celebrity couple was selling their West Village townhouse because they “wanted something more private, laid-back and discreet.” In mid-September, that property on East 10th Street was listed for $25 million.

But Brownstoner now reports that the State Street deal fell through, and Parker & Broderick—with their son James Wilkie and twin daughters Marion and Tabitha—have purchased a new-build townhouse in Brooklyn Heights for more than $4 million. Brownstoner coyly offers, “We know the address, and the building was recently taken off the market, but we don’t want to say more.” This, however, refutes other media outlets that are sticking by the State Street purchase. Stay tuned! (Photo: New York Daily News)

this story does not make a lot of sense. Where in Brooklyn Heights can one buy a “new build” brownstone for four million dollars?
Why would these two spend so little for a house?
Maybe they spent four million to buy a lot on which to build a house, don’t know. There is a buildable lot on Middagh Street. Did they buy that big modern house on Willow Place? I could see them there but that place sold for ten million or thereabouts.

That new townhouse on the corner of Hicks and State?

    End the BHB Starf**k.

  • Promenade Princess

hicksanthrope: file under… your response is so predictable that it just vanished into thin air… wow, you don’t care about celebrities in the neighborhood. so don’t. let the rest of us read all things about brooklyn heights without your crass commentary, please.

  • AEB

And file you comment, Ms.Princess, under habitual reflexive unwarranted and over-heated hostility to your fellow BHB posters.

    Really, you must COOL-OUT.

    Thank you.

    Who cares!!!

Anyone look in to 14 College Place? Looks like that is a new build townhouse in a very quaint and quiet location…

Per Streeteasy, this place sold for $4.85 mill as of August.

    who cares?

  • stuart

    I care.
I think it is very interesting.
It would be amazing if SJP moved to the Heights.

  • Teddy

As long as she doesn’t move to your block/street or mine.

  • Jorale-man

I’m in the camp that this is newsworthy. Celebrities can sometime bring paparazzi and tourists. But they can also add to neighborhood “cachet” and possibly property values. Not saying that’s a direct correlation but it’s worth thinking about.

  • stuart

I think having celebrities like Parker and Broderick in the neighborhood add cachet. There have always been famous people in the arts and show business in our little area. It’s fun and it’s worth noting. I can’t imagine being so oblivious to the outside world as to say “who cares”?
Who cares about you is more like it.

  • hicksanthrope

I would love to know why it would be amazing if that family moved here. Really. What can we expect to happen? Our property values to go up?

  • signoff

Yes, it probably could increase property values marginally. And if you lived next door to them, you’d likely be in for some serious annoyance from paparazzi. So, basically, yes, newsworthy in the context of this blog – even if you don’t much care about celebs. (I care – but only about Giamati)

  • Wiley E.

What is more important to the BH community, SJP’s comfort level or Stuart’s sales commission check? Who cares about stuart?

  • Prom Gal

Does that mean bridle paths will replace bicycle paths? Does the new SKP property have stables?

  • Mr. Crusty

@PromGal: “Does that mean bridle paths will replace bicycle paths? Does the new SKP property have stables?”

You thought people complain now about dog owners not picking up after their animals. . . .?

  • Hicks St Guy

@stuart: “interesting, amazing”? a little over the top?

  • princess

Just want everyone to know that I am NOT the promenade princess! Just princess. :)

  • GHB

Promgal, you are some nasty piece of… work. Who are you? Miss Universe?

  • ME

14 College Place has great common spaces, but only three bedrooms (a huge master and two additional small bedrooms). Doesn’t seem likely for a family with two kids.

  • stuart

This really is the blog of the bitter old hater geezers.
Hicks St guy, Wiley, stay happy guys!

  • Arch Stanton

Really Stuart, Hicks St Guy has a point, what exactly do you find so “interesting & amazing” about a couple of mediocre actors living nearby?

Teddy–loved your comment—-“As long as she (SJP) doesn’t move to your block /street or mine”—-so true!.
