Playwright Lynn Marie Macy’s “Lady Susan Or The Captive Heart, a Jane Austen Bodice Ripper,” has been moving forward with workshops in Brooklyn Heights throughout 2012. (BHB correspondent Claude Scales previously reported on February and July stagings).
Theater 2020 now presents another semi-staged reading of the new play Thursday, October 4, at 7 p.m. at the Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church at 21 Sidney Place (between Joralemon & State streets) in Brooklyn Heights. The reading will include a reception with the cast and playwright after the reading.
“Lady Susan Or The Captive Heart, A Jane Austen Bodice Ripper” is branded as such: “This hilarious comic adaptation illuminates Jane Austen’s earliest novel ‘Lady Susan.’ Manipulative, callous and cruel, the beautiful widow Lady Susan Vernon is on a manhunt. To restore her broken fortunes the greatest coquette in England sets out to hook a rich husband. She will stop at nothing to achieve this goal including forcing her own daughter Frederica into an unwanted marriage. Will Lady Susan’s weakness for pleasure derail her notorious intrigues? Literature’s greatest villainess is about to take center stage.”
The suggested donation for admission is $25, although any $$ is accepted. Reservations are here or call 718-624-3614.
