This may be Labor Day weekend, but some subway maintenance workers will be laboring. Just like last weekend, Manhattan bound A and C trains are being diverted to the F line between Jay Street-Metro Tech and West 4th Street. As an added complication, Brooklyn bound F trains are taking the A/C from West 4th to Jay. this means no Manhattan bound service at High Street, but more than usual at York Street in DUMBO, and no Brooklyn bound service at York, but more at High Street.
To reach stops in Manhattan below West 4th on the A/C line (Fulton, Chambers, Canal, and Spring) take a 2 or 3 from Clark Street for Fulton or Chambers, a 4 from Borough Hall for Fulton, or change to a 1 local at Chambers for Canal or Houston (close to Spring) stops. To get to Brooklyn from the East Broadway, Delancey, and Second Avenue stops on the F, take a Manhattan bound A, C, or F to Broadway-Lafayette, where you can change to a downtown 6 local to Brooklyn Bridge and change there for a 4 to Borough Hall, or take the A, C, or F to West 4th and change there for a Brooklyn bound A, C, or F to York, High, or Jay streets. Note that this diversion lasts through the whole holiday weekend, from 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 5:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Another complication for those traveling into Manhattan is that, on Saturday and Sunday (but not Monday) there will no Manhattan bound R or (late night) N service at Court Street or at Jay Street-Metro Tech. However, Manhattan bound Q trains will stop at these stations, and you can change from the Q to the R or N at Canal Street. If you’re coming back from Manhattan on Saturday or Sunday, Brooklyn bound R and N trains won’t be stopping at 28th, 23rd, 8th, or Prince streets. To get back from these stops, you can either take an uptown train to 14th (from Prince or 8th) or 34th (from 23rd or 28th) and get a Brooklyn bound train there, or take the 1 local from a nearby stop and change to a 2 or 3 at 14th or Chambers. Also, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Brooklyn bound C trains won’t be stopping at 50th, 23rd, or Spring streets. Catch a downtown E at any of these stations and change for a Brooklyn bound A or C at 42nd, 14th, or Canal.
The 2, 3, 4, and G trains will be running normally in both directions this weekend. Whoopee.
The following week, it’s the 4 train’s turn in the FastTrack barrel. Monday to Friday 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., there will be no 4 train service to or from Brooklyn (the 5 doesn’t serve Brooklyn during those hours in any event). The 2 and 3 trains will be running normally in both directions, serving both Clark Street and Borough Hall, during those hours. For the convenience of those traveling deep into Brooklyn, the 3 will extend its route to New Lots Avenue.
During the wee hours, 12:01 to 5:00 a.m., Tuesday through Friday, Manhattan bound A trains will be taking the F line from Jay Street to West 4th. So, once again, no Manhattan bound service at High Street (the C doesn’t run during these hours). Take the 2 or 3 from Clark, the N from Court, or take a Brooklyn bound A from High to Jay and a Manhattan bound A or F from there.
