USAF Thunderbirds Flyover This Afternoon

This in from Notify NYC:

Notification issued 8/18/12 at 12:05 PM. In conjunction with Air Force Week, the U.S. Air Force Aerial Demonstration Team, the “Thunderbirds,” will perform a coordinated formation flyover pass in their F-16D “Falcon” aircraft over Yankee Stadium, down the Hudson River and towards the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, today at approximately 4:05 p.m.

We’re hoping they’ll do a few loop-the-loops and other aerial maneuvers over the Statue of Liberty before heading off. They should be easily visible from the Promenade.

Was anyone notified of fireworks scheduled for 1:20 am?

  • Mark

that was odd. full on 2 min fireworks, the sparkly fourth of july kind. Joralemon near bqe ish. Cats are wide awake now. (nothing to see here. please move on. Nothing to see here. go about your business…)

I heard the fireworks; scared the living crap out of me… they sounded like they were right over Columbia Pl in the Joralemon and State area… How could they be sanctioned at 1:20am? I just assumed they were some private folks having a good time, but the number of them in quick succession makes me think it was a professional production…

I heard them too…. at first I thought it was gunfire and I got really scared.

E, exactly my first thought too. they sounded eerily louder and more distinct than when fireworks are produced over the park or the east river, but perhaps that was owing to the stillness of that time of night? in any event, really bizarre.
