On August 8, 2007, an EF2 tornado—strong enough to foster winds of 111-135 mph—touched down in Kings County, New York, the most powerful tornado in New York to date and the first in Brooklyn since 1889. What’s putting the wind in your sails on this Open Thread Wednesday?

willowl, again appreciate your vigilance and I understand that you were just being prudent. When it comes to adult behavior in a children’s playground I disagree with Mr. Crusty, you don’t need ANY evidence. Your gut feeling is fine and appreciated. You weren’t suggesting that the man was committing a crime, you were just saying; keep an eye out especially in light of an earlier warning. Thanks again

Ruben — Please check my reply to your remark regarding local movie pricing.

  • wow…just…wow

@willowl – thanks for your post. As the parent of a young toddler, I also find it strange when people without kids are in the playgrounds, for whatever reason.

To everyone else that seems appalled by WillowL’s concern….how is WillowL possibly overreacting? She clearly wrote: “I am not sure if it’s suspicious or not.” As for taking a picture of a guy going in and out of a park that clearly states a rule about no adults without kids…how many times have people on here posted about taking pictures of a person that lets their dog crap on the sidewalk? Seriously, get your effing priorities straight. Yes, it sucks to step in poop….possibility of a child getting harmed sucks more. WillowL was simply stating a concern, nothing more. And I understand, it’s perfectly fine, and sometimes necessary, to use the bathroom multiple times in a short period, young or old, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with someone on here stating a concern.

  • ColumbiaHeightster

This is ridiculous. All WillowL did was give people a heads up that a man without a child twice used the bathroom in a short period of time in a kids park (where is specifically says that no one is allowed to enter without a child). She didn’t accuse him of anything and even said she didn’t know if his behavior was suspicious. The blacklash here is sadly predictable, but over the top nonetheless.

I’m not a parent, but if I was, and took my kid there, I would appreciate the post and move on with my life.

    @willowl – I noticed I used “she” as a pronoun…I apologize if you’re a “he”….

Has anyone else noticed the DOT parking meter tickets are now thrown all over the sidewalks?

Hey willowl, I have a video of YOU:

Geez, you make Bloomberg look like a libertarian.

  • WillowSt.Neighbor

    brian in Brooklyn,
    Do you have children?

  • heightsscientist

Can anyone recommend an agency for renter’s insurance?

  • Willowl

Brian in Brooklyn- this is the last time I am going to say this , I posted a comment with a simple observation. Everyone is entitled to their opinions . I didn’t say, ” oh my god can you believe an old man pissed at the park oh my god”. I just found that his presence in the park to be off putting, especially because of a prior incident that had happened at the park. My post was directed toward parents and care takers who take their children to the park. It wasn’t meant for morons like yourself that troll YouTube looking for Simpson clips.

  • WillowSt.Neighbor

    heightsscientist,
We used Allstate for renter’s insurance. We still use them for the coop that we purchased.

Put it to bed people. Those who find Willow’s post pertinent and possibly helpful (like me) will be more vigilant in the playground, for all the others, what do you care? For renters insurance use Max J. Pollack & Sons in Red Hook. They’ve been insuring owners and renters for over 50 years in all the South Brooklyn neighborhoods.

  • willowl

@she’s crafty. THANK YOU. the post was meant for parents, care takers and anyone who cares about the safety of children. let it go. and brian finding clips of the simpsons on youtube speaks volumes about your character. get a life.

  • WillowSt.Neighbor

    willowl,
I like your spirit. Keep it up and continue taking the jerks to task.
I am too old to do it!

  • SuperMommy

Alert! Alert! I saw a man walk past the playground and he turned his head towards some children playing and I saw he had a smile on his face. Must be a pedophile, why else would he smile? Beware. Beware. Supermoms everywhere protect The Children from the herds of predators swirling around The Children. Take photos of the man. Post comments in all blogs. Make him wear a big bright “P” on his clothing.

  • nabeguy

SuperMommy, that kind of juvenile response is what I’d expect from one of the kids in the playground.

This is a neighborhood blog. WillowL, as a neighbor, posted about something that they thought would be of note to other neighbors.

What kind of neighbor are you that you would attack someone for doing that?

  • willowl

    Dear ” Super mommy”,

I am NOT a parent. yet the child that is under my care is very important to me. everyone posts’s about babysitters being on their cell phones, well I’m the babysitter looking out for the child that is under my care and you want to fault me for that? Seriously? I never once said ” SOUND THE ALARMS THERE’S A MAN SMILING OMG PEDOPHILE”. I said a man with NO CHILD used the bathroom more than once after walking away from the park. To those who think I’m over protective so sorry. But it’s my job to keep that child safe.. I guess I should join all the other babysitters and stare at my cell phone some more. all I was doing was trying to help. SuperMoron.

OMG – are you people still debating this? It’s Friday, for crying out loud. Don’t any of you have jobs? Or are you just crotchety busy-bodies with nothing better to do?
WillowL doesn’t identify a person by name. She says it may be nothing but is just raising awareness. She also raises a good point – she’s not a parent but cares for a child.
You’re the same people who lambaste inattentive nannies for not doing anything, but are now lambasting WillowL for hypervigilance.
I could tell you that we’ve cured cancer and achieved world peace and you’d still find something to complain about. Get a life!

  • heightsscientist

Thanks Willow St Neighbor for insurance recommendation
Is the agent in the neighborhood?
