Brooklyn Bridge Park: New Pool Hours

Karl and his cam have been regular visitors to the Brooklyn Bridge Park Pool, so he was on hand for the posting of new hours for pool use that go into effect today. To accommodate more swimmers, shifts have been shortened from one hour to 45 minutes, with 15 minutes allowed for changeover. The first shift begins at 10:00 a.m. and goes to 10:45; the second from 11:00 to 11:45, and so on through 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. This will increase daily capacity by 60%. Video after the jump.

First World Problems, anyone? I find it pathetic that when other neighborhoods are facing serious problems like crime and inadequate schools, you people are complaining about your temporary pool not being big enough. I wish I didn’t have to pass you people on the streets to get to my apartment. Entitled and pathetic – you make me sick.

    j,
The entire country is facing real problems not just in our neighborhoods. I wonder if some of us are not in denial. Maybe all this talk about the size of a pool is just a distraction.
I assure you though that we are not all entitled and pathetic. I have many wonderful neighbors who worry constantly about how they will manage in their “golden years”. Although I understand your anger, it is unfair to paint everyone with the same brush.

  • Swim

The pool is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. The city did a great job.

It’s getting so tiresome reading so many negative responses to every single post on BHB. We are so very lucky to live in BH and to have all these amenities in our “backyard”.

Is it possible for BHB readers to say some nice things?

@ j – swimming is essential physical therapy for many people I see disabled people at the indoor pools I use who are not able to function without swimming.

pools are not trivial they are an essential part of our infastructure both Robert Moses and Mayor Bloomberg see the importance of a pool.

  • Mr. Crusty

    Well said Swim.

  • Heightsman

Gerry – you truly live in a bubble world…”essential part of our infrastructure”. I don’t even know where to begin.

  • yoohoo

IMHO, Gerry would do well to move to Great Neck, then he doesn’t have to get up so early to swim his 50 m laps. BTW, folks, a 25 m pool is NOT Olympic-size.

  • Doug Biviano

How long is the line generally, i.e. are people waiting in line longer than one shift?

  • WillowSt.Neighbor

    Doug Biviano,
I walk on the Promenade throughout the day and so far have not seen any long lines for the pool.
