Walking down Atlantic tonight to catch the brilliant sunset at BBP, I noticed Sosta, the pizza place, was closed. Sign said it was closed for “renovations” until June 15. As today was June 26, I guess it bit the dust.

On a more positive note, there appears to be a new place preparing to open a couple blocks down. It’s called Table 87 (at 87 Atlantic) and they’ve applied for their liquor license per the notice posted.

    Anybody know anything about either?

After all the acrimony of the last few days we need to remind ourselves of some of the things we love about Brooklyn Heights..

For me, one of those things is getting my cup of coffee and buttered bagel early in the morning, going to the Promenade, and watching the city slowly wake up. Nothing better in the world.

    Likes this!!!

    Good idea, Mr. Crusty!

There’s nothing more beautiful in this entire city than taking in the breathtaking view of Manhattan, the quickly rising 1 WTC, the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge, all from our “backyard.” Cannot put a price on that view.

Speaking of Atlantic Avenue, anyone know whats going on with Catania? It closed for “vacation” and was supposed to re-open May 12. We’re approaching July and I haven’t seen any activity.

  • GHB

And speaking of Atlantic Avenue, wasn’t Red Gravy supposed to open in the old Mescal’s space?

  • Michele

I am looking for the kind neighbor called Heights who posted about a lost gift card a couple of open threads ago. If you can drop me a line I would be grateful.

  • Brooklynite

I’d say that Catania is closed for good. Not sure what happened.

Red Gravy ran into a bit of a problem during the interior renovation. Seems like there was a problem with the ceiling structure and it turned out to be a bigger job than expected. Plus getting work permits in NYC is always fun.

87 Atlantic I believe is going to be a pizza place. Not sure what kind of pizza, but that is what rumor has it.

Sosta – I have seen some things change in the inside during this “renovation” process. Not sure if it bit the dust or what. But they seemed to be either really busy or completely empty every time I walked by.

Speaking of all of the Atlantic Ave new spots, Junior Lowe is a really nice children’s apparel store that just opened at 89 Atlantic Ave. They sell shoes, books, dresses, bathing suits, lacoste shirts, etc. Anyone with a kid should check it out or if you need a gift.

Nice to see that end of Atlantic Ave getting some good stores. Let’s support them!

anyplace I can get a dirty water dog?

  • Brooklynite

    Court (between Remsen and Joralemon)
    Henry and Amity

not sure if all those hot dogs are “dirty water”, some might be grilled :-)

  • The Bear

Shake Shack has good dogs too. Shack-ago dog is great!

Bklyn Bridge park has a horticultural tour on the 4th Thursday of every month from 6-7 pm. I went last month and it was really worthwhile. And of course each month the plantings look different, so on each tour you see something different. Highly recommend it!

has anyone noticed occasionally in cadman park between the hours of 10-11 pm on the north side by the buidling, there have been perhaps a dozen young men dressed in black doing some sort of exercise program or what seems like a fraternity initiation ritual? does anyone know what that’s about? probably seen it 10 times over the past 2 months

  • JV

    What’s a “dirty water dog”?

  • billy

Anyone hear hammering at around 12:30am this morning near the 2/3 train?

Dirty Water Dog is a double entendre, in some spooky way.

  • Hicks St Guy

the traditional hot dog, preferably Sabrett, from a cart, kept warm in, ahem, water.

  • Hicks St Guy

what are they filming on Clark St, adjacent to the subway entrance?

  • Ernie

Finally went to the new Custom House on Montague Street. There is only one word for it – Loud! The acoustics are awful. Sound just bounces all around creating an irritating roar. It is better outside. It may do well as location often overcomes a lot. But they would do a lot better if they spent a few moments to think about making it a more pleasant place.

  • WillowSt.Neighbor

    Hicks St. Guy,
They are filming “They Came Together” with Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. I just passed by and saw both actors outside Tazza.

  • Hicks St Guy

@WSN, thanks. they sure took up a lot of parking.

  • Andrew Porter

Let me float a horrible idea with you guys: The Witness property on Columbia Heights, the big building on Orange Street, and the Towers Hotel: perfect for NYU. They already own a dorm on Clark Street. And they’re adding to Polytechnic, which they own, and are working on the former Transit Authority building on Jay Street.

  • Hicks-ter

Can anyone recommend a good house painter? Looking for a professional re-do of walls and moldings, a bit more than a basic repaint. thanks.

  • Derek Jetah

Witnesses have a brand new hot dog cart/literature kiosk outside the Bossert, doing a big lunch biz today.

There’s a “BHA Member” sticker on the side of the cart.

Vendor is young and looks very Midwestern. Doesn’t talk much.

  • Knight

I did not know that NYU owns a dorm on Clark. Whereabouts?

  • lcd

The building on Clark St. houses students from many different schools, not just NYU.

  • WillowSt.Neighbor

55 Clark, Educational Housing Services. As lcd stated, they house students from many different schools.
Brooklyn Law houses students in the neighborhood. Might they not be interested in adding new dorms?

  • Joe

I too have been enjoying the view of the skyline against the brilliant backdrop of a burnt orange sky but on the other end of the day.

The evenings have been cool for a nice walk on the promenade. 10+ plus years here and I never get immune to the view.

  • WillowSt.Neighbor

    Andrew Porter,
50 Orange Street is renting apartments. Is that the building you were referring to?

  • KCB

Just noticed the water coming out of our kitchen faucet has a brown tinge to it. Anyone else have the same problem today?
