Black Watch Returns to St. Ann’s

The National Theater of Scotland’s Black Watch returns to St. Ann’s Warehouse [38 Water Street, DUMBO] tonight as the theater launches its new season.  The multi-media production played a limited run last year at the DUMBO arts mecca to critical acclaim.  The play is based upon the actual testimonies of members of Scotland’s Black Watch infantry battalion who served in Iraq.

Ben Brantley reviewed the show’s 2007 run in the NY Times: “For Black Watch is a necessary reminder of the transporting power that is unique to theater. Other narrative forms — fiction, memoirs, film, television — could tell the story that is told here. But none could summon and deploy the array of artistic tools that is used with such mastery and immediacy.”

We caught the show in 2007.  It’s moving and amazing on every level – performances, story and staging.

Tickets are available by callling (718) 254-8779 or at artsatstanns.org.  Performances end November 30.
