The Citibank at 181 Montague St. is no stranger to excitement. At around 9:45 this morning, a man in his 50s, wearing a plaid jacket, displayed a firearm, passed a note to a teller, and fled with an unknown amount of currency.

As cops from Brooklyn North Task Force and Major Case Squad descended on the area, working on a tip that the man was later seen at another bank in the area, Citibank customers were perplexed to read a very vague sign taped to the doors:

“THIS FINANCIAL CENTER WILL BE CLOSED FOR 2 HOURS TODAY.  PLEASE VISIT OUR COURT ST. FINANCIAL CENTER LOCATED AT 375 COURT ST/1ST PL.”

The lack of a time stamp on the sign left people scratching their heads—and thinking a trek to Carroll Gardens insurmountable, especially when a light rain began to fall.  Some customers, many of whom had traveled from the far-reaches of Brooklyn, decided to wait it out, while others shrugged and said “I’ll come back Monday.”

Stay tuned for more.
