The Good Word(s): Friends Of Brooklyn Heights Library Looking For New Members

Friends of the Brooklyn Heights Branch Library (that’s FBHBL to those in the know) is looking for individuals to help energize its future endeavors. The non-profit 501c3 organization, formed in 1993, hosts an annual fundraiser that honors authors or illustrators and supports other community initiatives. For instance, FBHBL has joined with The Brooklyn Heights Chamber Ensemble to raise money for its auditorium grand piano, which it also funds to keep in tune.

Current president Diana Prizeman invites all who are interested in joining the Friends to a meeting Tuesday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m., at the Brooklyn Public Library in the Heights at 280 Cadman Plaza West and Tillary Street. Please assemble in the Children’s Room on the second floor.

FBHBL’s mission: raising money to purchase books, furniture, audiobooks and computers (as well as their ongoing maintenance); sponsorship of author visits & events; Friday book sales; and bringing crucial library issues to the attention of the community and elected officials.

FBHBL is working toward launching a Facebook page; for more information, reach out to Deborah Hallen at dmhallen@gmail.com.
