The first step – nominate all of your favorite spots in the neighborhood (eat-in, takeout, breakfast, lunch, dinner) in the comments below. All types of eateries apply, we’ll break ’em down into categories for voting.

Yes absolutely, Noodle Pudding, Jack the Horse and Henry’s End are fantastic high-class places to eat. Bevacco is a nice addition to the mix. Armando’s does have nice linguini and clams, along with other quality seafood. I clearly need to get over to Colonie.

Come on folks paleeze, the burgers at Grand Canyon on Montague are way better than at the over rated 5 Guys chain. Plus you can get friendly service from Snidely Whiplash. And Pete’s Waterfront Ale House on Atlantic has even better burgers than GC.

Grilled Cheese Heaven is found only at Clark’s.in the Heights.

As for sushi, I go to Ozu more than anything. But that’s because I like the people, service and value. If I want the highest quality sushi in the Heights, I go to Iron Chef. If I want to take it home, I go to Sushi Gallery. Funny that they’re all within 100 feet of each other.

Henry Street Ale House has a wonderful chicken pot pie. I recommend starting with the asparagus appetizer. I hear their burger is good too – and cheap on Monday nights.

Best cheap eats = the falafel sandwich for $3.25 at Heights Falafel. I’ve even seen them give college kids a little extra to be kind.

not sure of the made to order and it’s only chicken breasts in the dish I’m talking about (good mash potatoes and very garliky side of veggies with it).

The best restaurants in the Heights can be found in Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens and in Boreum Hill with the lone exception of Tony’s Noodle Pudding, which has its roots in Cobble Hill.

    But, there’s always hope…..

Will have to go to HSAH again…

Henry’s End has been wonderful for 30 years and is a neighborhood gem. Jack the Horse is great too, as is Noodle Pudding (if you don’t mind waiting). And for terrific wines by the glass and a light meal, the BH Wine Bar has been a great addition to the neighborhood. If we count those on the borders of the Heights, Hibino and Colonie (except for the wait) are first rate, but the all-time champion remains the River Cafe. Even if Buzzy and the food he serves were not world-class — and they are — the million dollar view is unmatched anywhere in NY.

Dinner: Queen, my Dad took my Mom on their first date to the Queen and my family has never stopped going.

Take out: Lychee Nut – better than average quality and lower than average grease for Chinese

    Cocktails/Snacks – Colonie

Umm, someone forgot to tell you about Henry’s End, Rick. By far the best restaurant in Brooklyn Heights, and one of the best in NYC, if not the country. I have had many business contacts to Henry’s, from all over the world, and invariably they go away staggered by the quality and inventiveness of the food and the range of the offering. Simply mind boggling and simply the best. Just sayin’. Am I wrong?

  • Pierrepont

The crown jewel of the neighborhood, by a fair margin, is Jack the Horse. Food, cocktails, and staff are second-to-none. (Locally owned and operated, I should note!)

Although DUMBO might not count, the new Gran Electrica is also miles above any Mexican food this side of Sunset Park.

Colonie and Henry’s End round out the top tier, though Lantern earns my vote for clutch takeout in this ZIP code.

  • Pierrepont

Suppose I should add a comment citing the best dessert in the neighborhood: Hands-down, that is Mrs. Mud Pie at Henry’s End!

  • Whit

Without question Colonie is the best meal you’ll find between dumbo and Atlantic ave.

  • cat

    Colonie
    Jack the Horse
    Noodle Pudding

  • Alex

You should also have a WORST of the HEIGHTS award. Then maybe all the crappy places would take note and try to improve.

  • D and T

    Curry Heights
    Ozu
    Lantern
    Montague Street Bagels
    River Deli

  • D and T

Also, I definitely second Alex right above.

  • B and B

Baluchi’s and Siggy’s , Baluchi’s has a great lunch deal 50% off on all menu items till 3pm.

  • NYClady

Heights Cafe for the best Salad Nicoise and best outdoor seating. Jack The Horse for the best Sunday brunch. Vegetarian Ginger for the best take-out. Henry’s End for best special occasion dinner (and I second the Best Waitress nomination.)

  • zburch

Colonie (for decent raw oysters in the nabe, and a more inventive menu that changes)
River Deli (for the fish and trofie)
    Hibino (for everything)
    Queen (best old school italian)
Jack the Horse (for the chicken and smoked trout salad)

Two bad meals at Noodle Pudding means they are out. I tried to give them another chance but was served charred and rubbery sepia, overcooked pasta, underwhelming caeser, under seasoned all around.

  • zburch

Best takeout: Tenda, hands down (malaysian flat rice noodles with duck, bento boxes, Malaysian curry noodle soup)

  • caroline

I love the lentil soup at Tutt Cafe

  • David G.

I’d like to contribute the Bark Hot Dogs, Lat Exit, Henry’s End, and Floyd are all great places to get a drink.

  • Alec

How has no one mentioned Lichee Nut for chinese?

  • Alan F.

Breakfast at Iris for Avocado toast & eggs with coffee
Healthy lunch at Hibino for the salmon
    Dinner at Bevacco or Colonie
Then onto beers and a late night burger at Henry’s End.

  • ColumbiaHeightster

Can anyone recommend a place for good wings/ribs that delivers to the Heights please?

  • MadeInBrooklyn

Alan – When did Henry’s End start serving burgers?

  • KG

We go out a lot (and order from Seamless a lot), so:

Pizza: Bevacco, Tutt Cafe (seriously!), Front Street… Fascati’s for a slice.

Nice dinner out: JTH, Bevacco (especially with the baby), Al Mar… we have never been able to stand Noodle Pudding. Henry’s End is also very good; love their ribs.

Best bar: BH Wine Bar, hands down! I would also say that we love their menu, except they keep removing the things I love (tuna tartar, Cuban sandwich, etc.) But best selection of liquors, nicest place to hang out, etc. We prefer them to brunch over JTH.

Best Chinese: we like Lychee Nut, but man do I long for the days when I lived on 17th/3d and could get Grand Szechwan delivered.

Best Korean: WHY IS THERE NO KOREAN?

Best Mexican: Seriously, WHY IS THERE NO MEXICAN?

Best/fastest delivery: Park Plaza. Great matzo ball soup, great buffalo finger sandwich, great burger, great mac & cheese, great gyro… gross Mexican though.

We don’t often make the trek to Montague/Atlantic — easier for us (located in the North Heights) to just go to Tribeca or other points in the city.

Most overrated: Noodle Pudding. We like Al Mar fine, but the atmosphere at Noodle Pudding (dinky tables combined with a 45-60 minute wait) has never been our favorite, and I’ve never had anything there truly amazing.

  • ColumbiaHeightster

KG, there is Mexican, and it’s amazing: Gran Electrica. I know it’s in DUMBO, but since you’ve mentioned Al Mar a few times, I’m guessing you’re including DUMBO.

  • BH’er

Tribeca is more convenient to the N Heights than Atlantic Ave?? Not sure how that works out, but my favs are:

    JtH
    Noodle Pudding
    River Deli
    Iris

    Montague St Bagels

    Least favs:
Henrys End (had a terrible experience there)

    in queue:
Colonie – looking forward to this based on reputation alone!

  • Alan F.

Oops. I mean Henry Public for a beer & burger (not Henry’s End)

  • PJL

    Noodle Pudding
Henry St. Ale House – beer & burgers/bar food
    Park Plaza – delivery
    Clark’s – breakfast
    Henry’s End
    Jack the Horse
    Heights Falafel – take-out
