Waterfront Wines & Spirits, the new store located on the Joralemon Street side of One Brooklyn Bridge Park, will host “Drink Local”, a tasting event featuring Brooklyn made gins, vodka, and wines, this coming Friday evening, February 24, from 6:00 to 8:00. Admission and tasting is free; proceeds from sales during the event will benefit the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. The Conservancy sponsors or facilitates many cultural, educational, and fitness activities and events in the Park, including SyFy Movies With a View.
The Brooklyn distillers and vintners, and their products, represented at the tasting will be:
Brooklyn Republic Vodka, poured by Kary Laskin, co-owner. Brooklyn Republic came on the scene in 2011, and is already a hit with its bright flavor and smooth finish. The vodka is brought to us by Gary Shokin, originally from Lithuania, his daughter Kary Laskin and Mark Krupkin.
Breuckelen Distilling, featuring gin poured by distiller/owner Brad Estabrooke. Also a newbie, Breuckelen Distilling began crafting gin and whiskey from New York grains during the summer of 2010. Located in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn, the distillery sells its products throughout New York.
New York Distilling Company, with Perry’s Tot Navy Strength Gin and Dorothy Parker American Gin being poured by founder/partner Tom Potter. New York Distilling is currently focused on gin, but will soon bring their American Rye to market, which they are currently distilling, tinkering with and aging. Potter got his start in beer, co-founding the Brooklyn Brewery in 1987.
Brooklyn Oenology Wines, with Winemaker Alie Sharper pouring Motley Cru Red and Social Club White. BOW is a local, woman-owned winery based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn founded in 2006. Brooklyn Oenology works to present the flavor of our region by sourcing grapes exclusively from local New York State vineyards and by placing the exciting work of New York City artists on its labels.
Rumor has it that Steven and Vanessa may make an appearance.
